Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
*I’m even more bent on buying S500i now after seeing PH’s phone…lol…so cool!*
Went to Plaza Singapura with PH today, after her last paper. Met at Dover…thanks for tat hand-painted “Snowman-holder”! I realised PH’s kinda artistic after all haha. Bet she was happy about the Mickey long-sleeve tee and DBSK Paris photobk too~ PH put on make-up wor…said cos she wanted to meet me then put de…*Oh! I feel so honoured!* We chatted about my China life on the train, with me almost forgetting how to go to Douby Ghaut station.
Bought tickets for “Sweeney Todd” ($8), when I was hesitating at 1st cos it seems like a bloody-cum-triller show, according to the promotion ad on TV. Anyway, 最后还是鼓起勇气决定看了haha. Walked ard in Sembawang, MJ, Poh Kim those CD/DVD de shops…can’t seem to see Lollipop’s 1st album anywhere…weird. PH was hungry le, so we went to have Swensen cos I missed it quite a lot. *There are many many other eating de shops/restaurants at PS…多到眼花缭乱…and 1st time I tot tat PS is quite a gd shopping place actually, due to the varieties of shops there.*
Had black pepper seafood pasta ($13.90), which was my all-time-fav last time. Why? Cos it as until today then I realised tat the “pepper-ness” is a bit too much for my tongue ah! The份量seemed to be少了as well…maybe cos I’m too used to China’s meal量le haha. PH had fish baked rice and she said nt bad. I tried mango lychee drink ($4.90) and it’s super nice! We 2 shared the banana split too. Wanted to try the prawn dippers de…but after so much food realised we couldn’t down anymore others, so gave up. Heard a lot about my sec sch classmates from PH…a little about their lifes now basically. It feels great to still be in the knows about ur sec sch mates when u’re already like gg to be in ur 20s soon~

Now for the review of “Sweeney Todd”. *SPOILERS AHEAD!*
Was reading TODAY’s exclusive interview with Johnny Depp and the ratings on this movie this morning, didn’t expect tat I would be watching this at all.
1st thing: Maybe cos this is a British film, saw many familiar actors/actresses faces in it, who acted in Harry Potter before! The baddie Judge was by Snape, the headmaster of Slytherin house LOL! His侍从was Peter Pettigrew tat cowardice in HP as well. The female lead, Mrs. Lovett, (算是) acted as Bellatrix Lestrange in HP…omg…her style of dressing is like 90% similar to tat in HP lor!
Very dark show…the settings gt the feel of Diagon Alley in HP. Starting of the show brought in Anthony (nt bad-looking young lad), singing on a boat…with an unusually pale make-up de face. Then, Johnny Depp came in la…oso pale like sheet la. They were singing (this is a musical-cum-movie), but Anthony’s gt a better voice. Johnny Depp de voice very “Johnny Depp” la…distinctive. Btw, 95% of the characters in the show (those gt lines one) muz noe how to sing. Guess many are舞台剧出生de ba…I esp like Johanna voice…chirpy haha. A lot of重叠singing esp by Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett, which were harmonious I tot…nice.
Johnny Depp came back to London for a revenge, he called himself Sweeney Todd, instead of the famous barber, Benjamin Parker. Once he entered the small eatery of Mrs. Lovett’s, she immediately treated him to some肉馅饼…and rum or sth. Funny la cos she was singing all e way…*imagine u gg into an eatery and the waitress starts to sing: “What do you want to eat?” blah blah…* Anyway, she loved Sweeney la, helped him in the revenge.
Storyplot was tat the person whom Sweeney wanted to kill is the judge, cos many yrs ago he snatched Benjamin’s wife and daughter from him…侮辱了the wife. Now, the judge treats Benjamin’s daughter as his own, locking her up in the rm. Anthony passed by one day, heard her singing, and fell in love with her. This brave young lad pledged his love out loud: “I want to steal you out.”…got beaten up…but was insistent on getting Johanna out.
Meanwhile, Sweeney made his name, famous as a barber. *Note: the barber then only shaves beard, nt hair.* He 1st killed the Italian barber, whom was once his小弟, when he was Benjamin. Tat irritating Italian guy too过分, wanted part of Sweeney’s income, so Sweeney killed him. By? Using vase to knock and his剃刀to slid the neck…ruthlessly. *Macham scared he won’t die like tat.* The part whereby he used the剃刀to slid ¾ of the neck was…oh man! Blood spilled like waterfall~ What happened to the body then? Made into人肉馅饼lor! Then on, while preparing for revenge and as practise, Sweeney sang as he killed his victims (those who came for beard-shaving) one by one, with diff ways of holding his剃刀to kill, and of cos…diff ways of blood spilling, gushing out as well. To迅速把尸体推下烘烤房(his working space at 2nd flr), he made the automated chair (sth like those u see in salons), a step on the pedal would make the chair rotate almost 90degrees backwards, sliding the body down…”shaving-cum-killing” business done. This part of him killing was一气呵成的lor…all scenes at one go…guessed I was too focused on how he was killing tat I forgot wat he was singing about…probably about his plans for revenge ba. *Yeah…I did use my fingers to block my视线at times~* Those human meat made into人肉馅饼brought business for Mrs. Lovett, and it was a一举两得thing, cos brought in more “customers” for Sweeney as well.
In the end, he killed the judge too thru this method…juz more brutal…looked like Sweeny用尽了他一生吞饭的力气to beat the judge to death. Worse thing was when he killed tat, his daughter was already smuggled out by Anthony from the asylum, hiding in the treasure box near him…he发现her la! When we tot tat he was gonna kill her, *cos she伪装as a guy plus he didn’t know tat she was his daughter*, a woman’s high-pitched scream stopped him from doing tat. Sweeney simply told his daughter in the face: “Forget my looks.” Honestly, this is心酸…cos the daughter had no idea tat she wasn’t gg to see her dad again. Oh yeah, before he killed the judge, he’d already killed his wife…whom looked like a witch from mental hospital. I didn’t know she’s Benjamin de wife, even when she said to Sweeney: “You looked familiar.”
Mrs. Lovett died in the end, pushed into the烘烤火炉by Sweeney, cos she didn’t tell Benjamin tat his wife was still alive. I tot not her mistake, cos she only said his wife took poison, nv said she’s dead (whereby most ppl would have tot naturally tat taking in poison means being dead next) Furthermore, it was Sweeney who killed his wife in a moment of anger. This foolish man killed his wife, almost his daughter and nv相认, being killed by a little boy, using his剃刀finally. His blood gushed out, dripped onto his wife’s face…ending was him kneeling down and somehow抱着his wife’s body, dead. What a画面…sad. Ending was a bit abrupt for me…cos nv show wat happened to Anthony and Johanna…only said they gg to远走高飞. What about that little boy? Is he going to be the “2nd Sweeney Todd” in future? No one knows.
Overall, a lot of blood la but nt gross till u wanna puke la. I竟然watched triller movies in theatres leh~lol. Juz a small mention: Still got 15% humour成份in the movie la…where Mrs. Lovett幻想与Sweeney一起的未来…Johnny Depp’s face really reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow la~comical even when he looks stern.
*Dun understand why tat row of Caucasians in front laughed like mad during the show. Cos they saw Britain de同乡? Cos they share the logic and mindset, juz like PH’s friend? Lol~*
