Uni grad trip to South Korea day 2: 22nd May 2013
The morning was chilly. I woke up at 7am, and all the girls gathered at the lobby by 8am, waiting for our taxi driver Mr.慎东哲's arrival haha. *Great that retirees in Jeju could work as taxi drivers, promoting the country's tourism while earning income too.* We "booked" his service and the jumbo cab for 2days in Jeju (amounting to 360k won in all, 22250won per pax), and we're very satisfied with his service of cos!
Random snappings ard outside our hotel inn while waiting~
Mr.慎came almost on time! As per our planned itinerary, we were supposed to "go east" today, covering the famous attractions on the western part of Jeju. We simply made a list, gave it to the taxi driver, and he did the planning as to which places to visit first, next and etc. Oh I must say I love the interior of the jumbo cab cos it's rather spacious~
Mr.慎spoke to us in mandarin, and he is fluent in mandarin, Korean and Japanese. Shared a lil' about his family and backgrd, and at one pt of time he even found "Gangnam Style", "One Man" and "月亮代表我的心" and played it in the car haha! We headed to Seongeup Folk Village first, then this lady guide (one of the villager) who studied in China for 5yrs, took over and gave us an introduction to this traditional village.
Saw the black pig thr? It was uber smelly lo! *Then again, 黑猪肉 (the driver kept saying "黑毛猪肉" though) is one famous dish in Jeju o!* Lady guide told us“济州岛有‘三多’:风多、石头多、女人多。”And we keep rmbing guys in the village in the olden days were called "wangbali" haha~ reminds us of“王八蛋”
~ since they don't really work and rely on their wives anyway. Oh and their house was built in such a way that ppl feel冬暖夏凉when inside~ and yes I did felt so!
Basically, she introduced us their living habits, the horses that helped in their farming and then brought us to a rm to try the horse cream, 五味子茶, honey etc. According to saying, diff ppl would taste五味子茶differently, and each specific taste means diff parts of ur body is weak... i.e.涩味代表有痰、肺不好etc. In the end, YY, WT, MT and I shared cost and bought the tea. MT and I got 2 bottles each (2.4kg alamak!)... costed me 166600 won.
Next, we moved on to Seopjikoji. Mr.慎pointed out nice places along the way, and stopped for us to take photos. *OMG the smell of tangerines along the way was so nice!*
Love the sea view. Anyway, the girls wanted to see the "All in House Memorial Hall". But there was more to that over here~ it's an easy-breezy walk up the slopes, to see the vast grassland, "白马王子", sparkling sea water and other beautiful sceneries!
The little house in the mist is a cathedral if I didn't rmb wrongly. And yes we did see a handsome white horse, standing alone in the middle... looking like a mannequin lol! *YQ actualli tot it was one at first, until it shaked its tail lol.* Dreamy creature in pic below!
The girls stopped halfway for some ice-creams! *Poor me was in my 2nd day of menses... can't eat!*
Aft spending about 1hr thr, we went back down again, cos we hav to hurry to our next destination!
Yes we passed by the famous葱油花田otw, and snapped a few pics before moving to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (城山日出峰). Entrance fee was 1000won per pax to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. *A pity we didn't climb to the top but dang the view was awesome alrdy!*
Such pretty views haha! We walked to the left-hand side of the place (instead of the top lol~), and saw that there were speed boat rides available! I thought I'd be wet, so din went... WT, XY and SS were brave enough to go for a ride though haha! *So many steps at natural sites in Jeju... I seriously need to exercise more haha!* I waited for the 3girls by the beach for about 10-15mins... The sand was black in colour, and the weather was so hot I could feel my soles burn in my shoes!
My lips were all white by the time I climbed back up! *Lol~ I can vividly rmb hw loud MT was when she shouted from the top to me! Power!* As much as we were hungry, a last grp pic at such wonderful place is a must before leaving for lunch!
Mr.慎drove us to a nearby restaurant for lunch. We dunno hw famous the place is, but apparently it's run by his friend.
He helped us ordered 2servings of青花鱼for 8pax, and a bowl of abalone porridge each! I think it's my first time eating青花鱼and it's delicious. One might not be used to the bland-taste abalone porridge at first, but the海鲜味is to die for, cos it slowly comes out after a while! Mr.慎is so nice to treat us to a bottle of peanut Magarita! Strong peanut smell haha.
And can u believe it!? The meal only costed us 9400won each! Next up are a few photos we all love a lot~ taken by the wonderfulMr.慎! Hurray to graduation girls! *Doesn't matter even if we couldn't open our eyes haha!*
Honinji was the next destination. *YQ insists on gg thr haha!* Sadly, the place seems to be closed, so we simply walked ard... rather aimlessly haha... together withMr.慎. He was, again, our photographer thr hehe~
The last photo was supposed to capture us blowing the mimosa "beautifully"... well the photo came out not bad I reckon! Then, we drove past another filming location again. *Miss WT fell aslp in the car this time haha.*
Mr.慎called his friend for directions, and we took a bit of time to reach Cafe de Seoyeun. *It's his first time coming here too.*
It wasn't as "exaggeratively beautiful" as compared to being seen in the movie "건축학개론", but the seaview was still very nice. It was kinda crowded when we reached, so we found some seats upstairs at first, and shifted down to the cushion seats after a while.
See how悠闲SS and I posed thr lol!? I ordered a cup of choco coffee (5000won) if I din rmb wrongly... sweet lo. This place would be lovely at night imo... romantic and quiet.
We took turns to "pose" and look at the sea... can't rmb suggested by who haha. Mr.慎was very kind and helped us take a grp photo again before leaving the cafe.
Just when we were about to leave, Jenny realised her hp went missing. All of us looked ard, and went back to the place to look for it. Luckyily, I'd found it near the wooden chairs (the gold casing and brown colour somehow blended together haha). Phew~
After treating Mr.慎to a cup of coffee, initially he wanted to drive us to one last destination near our hotel inn before the day ends (Jeongbang Waterfall), but a pity it's closed by the time we reached.
Well, so it's the end of the first day of travelling ard with Mr.慎. He dropped us at Seogwipo Daily Olle Mart, and we began our random walks for the night!
Btw, nightfall is rather late in Korea. The night only begins turning dark at 8+pm o. We were contemplating about dinner, and walked down and up the very steep slope next to our hotel inn... tiring.
In the end, we split up for dinner cos YQ, YY and XY rather eat non-spicy food. WT, MT, SS, Jenny and I were already stuck inside a small eatery, serving us spicy baby octopus (4200 won each)~ Omg the spiciness is sth I will nv wanna try again~ 5 of us were eating and "crying for help" at the same time... so funny. We were so noisy laughing and talking, and I realised other customers ard us kept looking here lol. At first we'd wanted to reject the order, but the waitress can't communicate at all, and wasn't even willing to try to speak anything to us~ so SS and Jenny ended up "washing" the octopus in plain water before eating lol!
Oh and I dun really like the "strong smell" that "pukes out" when u finish a mouthful of food wrapped in peppermint leaves... apparently MT loves it though haha. Met up with the rest of them and we headed back to our rooms... I think we all had some apples and strawberries in XY and YY's rm before turning in!
