Backdate: Yunnan Apr 2024 Day 3

11/4/24 Thurs: Got up at 7.15am, had buffet breakfast at the hotel at 8am before leaving for苍山感通索道at 8.45am. We arrived at 10am and spent three and a half hours there.

啊龙helped us to buy the tickets to感通索道using our passports. The cable car ride took 15 minutes up the mountain and it was quite high! We were in cable car no 16 with four other Chinese tourists. Came to珍珑棋局featured in天龙八部at our first stop and took some photos with those huge chess pieces.

Made our way up along清碧溪and although there were many tourists, the weather was very cooling and Alina found a nice spot for our wefies!

After that, we walked over to后谷咖啡café where I ordered a hot rose red date milk (RMB 30) and Alina got Rose Latte (RMB 35). We sat outside the café, watching people pass by and chatted with Alina about my life with Potato and her life with Jerome etc. *偷得浮生半日闲~ 致生活! The weather and the company was so nice we would stay longer on the mountains if we could!* Also, we learned that“风花雪月”was an old tune in ancient China and in大理, it refers to the natural landscapes下关风、上关花、苍山雪and洱海月. *Damn there were strong gusts of wind on the ride down the cable car and it shaked the cabin… that made me feel like scolding vulgarity lol.*

啊龙drove us to华兴园for lunch. We had水性杨花汤(RMB 38)、干锅鸡(RMB 158and rice (RMB 6). *The one-time use bowls, utensils and tissues costed RMB RMB 7 too.* The干锅鸡had the mala spiciness in it so it’s not for me. 水性杨花soup was bland but the vegetable was still nice.

It was a short drive to崇圣寺三塔. We were there at 3.30pm and stayed till 5pm. 三座塔的存在据说是为了镇住洱海的妖怪。Somehow it was quite hot in the afternoon and the wind was blowing crazily in the area…

We chose to walk and not take the electric tram ride. It was huge. It was a pretty garden and there was also a guan yin temple inside. Due to time constraint, we did not finish walking entirely from North to South.

Reached大理古城at 5.30pm. We watched sunset on top of五华楼. 啊龙said this tower was where the king received guests in the old days. He also explained a myth about the fountain at one side of the town that had to do with earthquakes in云南but I forgot the story haha.

We also visited the孔子文庙where we saw many tourists wearing traditional clothes of different ethnicities and taking photos. It was late soon and we walked around to look for suitable dinner options, even considering Macdonalds at one point lol. Ended up having street snacks at one of the “pasar malam”-alike corner.

First, we had different kinds of stir-fried fungus shrooms (RMB 25) which were delicious! Then, we tried the rose bamboo rice (RMB 28) which was fragrant and had the饵丝with ham (RMB 8) but it was only okay.

Walked over to where啊龙parked his car but we were still hungry and so we bought more snacks from stalls along the roadside. The蜜汁鸡腿 (RMB 9) was delicious! Apparently, the locals like everything spicy, even with fruits haha. We bought a big bowl of fruits salad (RMB 25) to share and it was surprisingly not bad, albeit we could not finish it. *kns he laughed at me for mis-pronouncing粑粑lol*

Got back only at 9.30pm but there was an issue with our card key so we could not open the door. Had to take the lift all the way down to level one to get the receptionist to help us resolve the problem.
