Backdate: Yunnan Apr 2024 Day 5

13/4/24 Sat: We woke up even earlier at 6am this morning and left an hour later. *so enjoyable for a rare quiet moment at古城in the morning~* Alina and I saw a random eatery opened and bought丽江粑粑, 豆浆and油条 (RMB 16) for breakfast in the car. We had the sweet丽江粑粑 but it was quite oily. The豆浆tasted slightly different from the ones in Singapore.

After paying the entrance fee (RMB 100 per person) and getting two oxygen cans (RMB 78), we got to甘海子 (3100m ASL) at 8am. The area was once filled with water but dry now. Took some photos and caught a glimpse of玉龙雪山.

啊龙drove further and we had a short toilet break where he first tried to go and get the tickets for the cable car up to玉龙雪山. It’s funny how I did not realise I was wearing shades all the way in the toilet and I kept thinking to myself “how come the toilet so dark one ah?” Came out and told Alina the joke and she laughed until peng~

We walked over to meet啊龙and thought we could go up中索道at least but we were told at 9am that the most popular上索道was faulty that day, hence all those people were relegated down to中索道and小索道, so啊龙could not even get tickets to the lowest cable car haiz. Alina was so disappointed and angry and we called喜妹and her team, who sounded like they tried to resolve the problem but there was nothing they could do after all. *Some disagreements happened and Alina was fed up. I tried my best to calm her down and I see from her point of view too why we as customers should be compensated for the lacking on agency’s side, but I was also worried if they’d try to find ways to make things difficult for us throughout the rest of our trip too.* Looking back now, to miss getting to the top of玉龙雪山was probably our only disappointment on the trip.

In the end, 啊龙helped us bought tickets to visit蓝月谷, 白水河and to watch《印象丽江》. Everyone who could not get onto any cable cars flooded the queue to蓝月谷, so it was scarily packed. We hopped onto their chartered bus for a 10-minute ride to蓝月谷 at 10am and spent about two hours there. *抓住春天樱花的尾巴~*

白水河was also in the area and we saw a few wedding photoshoots too. Took many photos there and did jump shot! *Alina joked she could do a mushroom gif and I’m the Mario lol!* Also, she somehow found a stick of鸡柳that she liked at the bus waiting area and ate two (RMB 20). While on the bus down, we ate our手抓饼 (RMB 20 each) but it was not as nice as those I ate before.

The《印象丽江》show started at 1.20pm. We went into the “arena” and got free seatings. I thought it was so cool to have a musical with the majestic玉龙雪山as the backdrop! 很壮观. The whole musical introduced the many minor ethnic groups in Yunnan.

There’s the cute choreography of the hardworking 纳西women and the “lazy” men just watching their wives hard at work lol. 纳西men don’t do housework because the ladies don’t want them to be tired after working, but hey the women also work outside and they have to take care of kids and do housework too!

Audiences cheered when the horses ran around and past us too! Definitely worth going for the experience.

We had to wait quite a bit for啊龙’s car outside the arena area because traffic was packed. At 3.30pm, we arrived at a shop that sold herbal medicine to drink 红井茶. Apparently, it can help reduce and prevent high altitude sickness. *On hindsight, this was probably one of the shops the agency wanted to earn from their customers if we bought anything.*

Alina saw the藏医, which啊龙said cured his gout and cannot stop raving about. Yes he gave a free consultation for Alina but the “solution” he gave to “treat” her conditions was very expensive. He said RMB 12,500 at first for the whole package of herbs etc, but later after Alina negotiated, the price was down to RMB 7500. Good thing she did not buy it in the end.

Headed back to丽江古城and the boss of茗和舒院recommended阿婆情腊排骨for dinner. Two of us got there at 6pm and ordered腊排骨set for one pax (RMB 75). The pork rib’s saltier than Singapore’s since it used dried meat but the soup went so well with their dipping mix!

After an hour or so of dinner, we thought to walk around丽江古城again. *There’s a saying there “进古城要逆水而上” but I can’t remember why so now.* Had潘祥记’s rose biscuit (RMB 4) and I thought I preferred theirs because it was not as sweet as嘉华’s.

Three hours passed with us just wandering around randomly and we did not even finish walking the whole of丽江古城! *The “clubbing street” was quite happening at night~* 嘴巴痒so tried冰粉 (RMB 18) and it reminded us a lot of爱玉.
