“Fire Of Love” + “Essential Thinking : Adopting A Growth Mindset for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving in the Digital Age” course + James & Potato’s bday dinner @ iO Italian Osteria + Kulnari Mystery Golf + 《谁是被害者2》+ Kulnari Mystery Golf, Famous JB 101 & Hundred Acre Creamery with Farmily
18/9/24 Weds: Did TCM massage with HL today and she said my body was heaty today. I thought maybe we could focus more on the neck and shoulder areas in the next session though.
Potato used the yosenabe sauce as base to cook pork collar meat hotpot tonight! It was quite nice but he probably put in the sweet potato noodles too early and they absorbed a lot of the soup lol.19/9/24 Thurs: Mike turned up at the barrier trials this morning for “a stroll down memory lane” lol and we took a group photo with the stipendiary stewards Scott, Neville and Senari.20/9/24
Fri: Sweated in Car-Streng-Dio class this morning.
Cooked my favourite cold chicken udon for dinner and also stir-fried Chinese cabbage with onions! I added in some chopped raw onions together with the udon for some crunch too~
21/9/24 Sat: *Good job to Potato who got Silver at his IPPT this morning! Also very proud of my brother who scored gold in his IPPT recently!* Hosted Justin and Kaylee at the Trophy’s Lounge this afternoon. *Justin won more than his cab fare back when Hey Boss won in the opener!* Chatted with Ryan before I knew he and his wife love cats too and fostered many of them when they were in Dubai and the US previously!
Came home to tom yam chicken, sweet corn, carrot and potato soup and some Chinese cabbage yay~
22/9/24 Sun: PotaTOHs caught “Fire Of Love” on Disney+ together.
It was a documentary film about the lives and careers of French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who both died in the Mount Unzen eruption in 1991. The archival footages we saw in the film were made by the fearless couple in their lifetime of chasing volcanoes, be it the more predictable “red” ones (resulting from tectonic plates pulling apart) or threatening “grey” ones (tectonic plates colliding). The explosion of Mt St Helens inspired them to devote themselves to that kind of volcanoes, in the hope the governments would take the warnings signs of eruptions seriously and develop emergency protocols to save lives.
I
enjoyed their humour but more so, their passion and courage to go after their
love – volcanoes. They practically lived on the edge of their lives but their
purpose were clear. Katia’s the geochemist and the detailed one while Maurice
was the geologist and probably the “wilder” one who had a dream of sailing on a
lava flow one day~ and he even had a rough idea of how the base of the sail
should be made of titanium etc. *Just so anyone’s keen, I googled and
science journalist Robin Andrews actually has an idea here:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/robinandrews/2017/07/26/heres-how-to-make-a-boat-to-sail-over-deadly-lava/ *
The
scene where Maurice and his other geologist friend went against odds to sit in
a cheap rubber dinghy they bought and go into the acid lake at Mount Ijen left
a deep impression. Katia was fuming but worried at the same time her husband
would just sink and die there because they were stuck there for more than three
hours! It’s a miracle the rubber float did not melt omg.
Unfortunately,
they died in an unexpected pyroclastic flow on Mt Unzen, Nagasaki in 1991.
Evidence suggested they did not try to run from it. *我想他们的这一生是圆满的了。* I salute their exploratory spirit when it
comes to Mother Nature, though I also vaguely recalled Katia saying something
along this line: Humans are tiny compared to Mother Nature, why and how dare we
think of going on top of it and thinking we are able to know it all?

Mon: Sweated a lot in Vinyasa Flow class this morning haha~ but good workout. Had
very good and meaty当归鸭饭
($4.50) from a coffee shop nearby for lunch too.
Finally got to taste the scrambled egg Trinice promised to cook for me since a year or two ago lol~ her mum told her to add butter into the mix. A bit bland but texture was not bad!
Stir-fried spinach and carrots, potato slices and enoki mushrooms (marinate combination was made with Potato’s help~) and pan-fried mushroom dumplings for our meatless dinner. I could have pan-fried the dumplings for a bit longer over lower heat though.
24/9/24
Tues: SH Lee helped take photos of me with Flying Nemo and Suhaimi helped me
for Golden Monkey. *Collin gave me Kosi’s fedora hat and tumbler~ thanks!*
Potato bought yong tau foo ingredients from Cold Storage and made yong tau foo soup with glass noodles for dinner~ the soup was so fragrant and yummy!
26/9/24
Thurs: There was a train breakdown from Queenstown to Boon Lay due to power fault
the morning before and according to the news, it would only resume full service
on Monday. Learned about six other thinking traits namely Quantum, Creative,
Experimental, Intrepid, Reflective and Kaizen Thinking and I’d like to think I
did some of them before too. *There’s a 30-day challenge that encourages us
to do something we really want to for a month! I want to try that.* Had Korean
spicy pork bibimbap ($6.50) for lunch at the other SMU school across the road.
The course ended at 5+pm and I took the DTL to Hillview and reached Hill V2 at 6.20pm.
Our dinner at iO Italian Osteria was reserved for 7.30pm so I had some time to
walk about the mall and Hillview Community Centre across the road while waiting
for the rest.
The family sure ate a lot for James and Potato’s birthday dinner! Among them, PotaTOHs loved James’ recommendation which were the homemade Tagliolini with prawns, asparagus, lemon and aromatic breadcrumbs, tender meatballs in hearty tomato sauce and the “Al Coccio” old Italian style baked eggs. I also liked their assorted homemade bread, porchetta and baked pork belly and lava cake with Expresso ice-cream.
Others like crispy golden seafood, three-flavoured pizza, fried olives, porcini mushrooms in semolina crumbs, baked eggplant parmigiana, grilled octopus and Hazelnut Nutella cake were okay. I didn’t eat the Angus beef carpaccio nor beer-braised beef but the Risotto and Cabornara were too salty while the lemon meringue tart was too sweet for my liking. They also ordered two bottles of Pinot Nero and had some Limoncello shots to end the night. We split the bill among seven people and it was about $89 per person. Ian was nice to drive PY, Fran and the PotaTOHs home after that.
27/9/24 Fri: Sweated out at Bungee Fitness class and instructor XY made RY and I worked quite hard since we were the only two in class haha.
Enjoyed the salmon shioyaki cooked by Potato~ the salmon was soft but the skin was crisp! The miso soup with sweet corn, Chinese cabbage, carrots and mushrooms also went very well with the rice cooked in chicken broth, Italian herbs and black pepper. I liked the smashed Japanese cucumber in chilli, sesame oil, sugar, light soy sauce and vinegar too!
Finished

28/9/24 Sat: Had lunch at Trophy Lounge with Mike and his 18yo son, Spencer.
29/9/24 Sun: Went for a two-hour game of Kulnari Mystery Golf ($42 per pax) with Potato, Ian, PY and James in the evening. Quite liked the vibe of the place the minute we stepped in. Had to wait for 15 minutes or so before our turn. We were supposed to solve the mystery of the Kulnari Trading Company along the way but bar the starting portion, all of us were more excited and focused about the 18 mini Golf courses la! *Kudos to PY because she still managed to pay attention and guess correctly the murderer in the end! I only knew there were two brothers in that company that’s it lol.*
I
think we liked how they designed their circuits with different obstacles and
terrains… there’s one that spinned too lol. I got lucky with two or three of
them but many “six-es” haha~ Each player could go up to six hits for each
course and I’m glad I came in third overall in the end… beating Potato by one
point hehe~
Ian
picked Linh up and together with Fran, we had the Famous JB 101 zi char for
dinner at Wcega Tower. Every dish was good but most of us liked the claypot XO
chicken mushroom pepper soup the most. Ian enjoyed the spinach and三色蛋most to our surprise since
he’s not usually a “greens person” haha. PY and Fran liked their coffee ribs.
The curry fish head soup leaned more towards the coconut side so it’s only okay
for me. The tomato prawns were succulent while the salted egg yolk bitter gourd
was okay imo. *A magician hired by the shop came to perform for us but
according to most of them, he needs to improve on his standards though.*
Then,
Linh suggested we try gelato at her Hundred Acre Creamery shop at Clementi. Business
looked good when we arrived there at about 9+pm. She let us try the honey
chrysanthemum, rose, lychee and raspberry, dark chocolate and limau-flavoured
ones on two types of waffles, one of it with pandan and kaya, but I prefer the
original crispy plain waffles. They were all very good but I guess “sinful” if
one eats too much desserts lol.
30/9/24
Mon: Another round of vigorous Vinyasa Flow this morning and we all sweated a
lot haha. *Somehow I find it hard to twist my right arm in one of the stance
but easier for my left arm on the other side lol. Imbalance somewhere haha~*
Had a satisfying bowl of prawn noodle soup ($3.50) at JE market for lunch.
Potato cooked Maitake cherry tomatoes Aglio Olio for our meatless dinner~ I topped it up with black pepper and Tabasco sauce and that sourness was so good.
1/10/24 Tues: Did an interview with Bruno this morning before writing my article and editing and translating Larry’s article. Busy day in the office which ended with heartwarming homecooked dinner back at my parents’. *Happy 36th birthday to my Potato! <3*
Also headed to Daniel’s stable but according to syce Sham,
Lim’s Saltoro has some temper and so does Lim’s Kosciuszko. Mike was able to
get Kosi to put his head out for quick photos but I did notice his ears pinned
back at times, like Saltoro’s. *Lim’s Saltoro almost wanted to bite Michael
too!*
3/10/24 Thurs: Potato came to pick me at 7pm before we picked up Ian from the airport and went for dinner. We had the Seng Kee black herbal chicken mee sua ($4.50 each) and fried oyster omelette ($6). The mee sua was okay for me and Potato but Ian seemed to like it better.
4/10/24 Fri: Met Potato for lunch at香港珍达街for XO fish head bee hoon soup and he enjoyed it as much as I did hehe~ *pissed with bad planning for the “limited edition” SGC race book. Disregard for working staff but just to please the bosses and public. Tsk.*
Came home to tom yam chicken and enoki shrooms, cabbage with mushroom, fried egg with onions and spicy Japanese cucumbers~ delicious!
