Backdate: Korea Seoul - Jeju Jun 2019 Day 1
17/6/19 Mon: It's our wedding photoshoot trip to Korea! It's my second visit to Korea, and as Potato hasn't been to Jeju before, I decided to bring him to this little island that I like ever since visiting it for the first time in 2013. We changed about S$2.5K each for the trip (rate was at S$1 : 867 KRW). Took Korean Air KE646 at 1.10am from T4, and it took 6hour 15minutes to reach Incheon airport, at local time 8.25am. *Round-trip air tickets costed S$690.43 per person, and we also bought eTiQa eProtect travel insurance for S$71.50 for 2 pax.*
First thing we did upon arrival at Incheon airport was to go to the T-pass machine to top up our T-pass so as to board the AREX Airport Railroad all-stop train to Gimpo airport (4450 KRW). Took us 40+ minutes to arrive. I bought a Wifi Egg online in advance (S$43.50 for 10 days), and happily thought that Gimpo airport was "small enough" and it wouldn't take me long to find the SK Roaming Centre to rent my Wifi Egg. To my horror, I had to walk a darn long path from the Domestic Terminal building to the International Terminal building to take it! *Very pek cek as I was tired from the flight to Seoul already because I can't sleep well on red-eye flights, and it was kind of worrying when both Potato and I had no means of communication in between.*
We took a quick bite of spicy pork gim bap (5200 KRW) at one food court at Gimpo airport after checking in for T'Way Air TW715. It took us an hour to reach Jeju airport. *Round trip air tickets to and fro Jeju was S$97.33 per person, and the maximum check-in luggage weight was 15kg each.*
We walked over to the car-rental pick-up area and looked around for a while before we hopped onto our Lotte-rent-a-car shuttle bus. Potato paid for the 5-days rental of a compact car for us (S$102.31). It was left-hand drive in Jeju, and traffic was a little overwhelming for him near the city centre, but it got much better as we drove towards our Airbnb, located in the East of Jeju. *It was better to enter the phone number of locations into their GPS system in the car to locate places we want to go.*
The drive to 해룡펜션(10평 침대방B) Airbnb (S$252.33 for two people for 5 nights) took 1+ hours. Check-in was at 3pm, and our room was on level 3, and one could see성산 일출봉just outside our window! It was literally a 10 minutes' walk to reach Seongsan Ilchulbong. We saw some women diver(海女)suits hung out to dry too.
There were groups of tourists going up in the evening. Just 2000KRW per person gets you into this world UNESCO site! *A lovely Korean family helped us took a photo before we began the ascend~*
Yes we planned to watch the sunset on Seongsan Ilchubong, but the views and natural formations while on the way up were not to be missed too. *Gosh we were already complaining about the amount of steps here... who knew what한라산actually brought us a few days later on LOL.*
It was only 180m ASL, the weather was cooling but not cold. The crater was not stunning la. On the way down, we'd like to estimate the number of steps... probably 300-ish? *Thankful to my贴心老公as Sweet Potato was pretty tired that day haha~*
We had dinner at a random Korean restaurant nearby. The waitresses could speak mandarin, and many of them could in fact. Tourism in Jeju has gone up quite a few notch these few years from the time I came, and so has the prices too.
Jeju is known for their seafood, and so we ate abalone porridge, seafood stew, seaweed and urchin soup and grilled mackerel. I enjoyed most of them, but the urchin was somewhat bland though.
Lucky my husband could finish the whole set! This dinner costed Potato 60K KRW! Took a stroll outside after dinner, and the town was pretty quiet by the time tourists dispersed. *I would gladly choose to stay near this area again if I were to re-visit.*
