Backdate: Japan Kyoto Dec 2018 Day 3

13/12/18 Thurs: Woke up early at 8am as it’s our Kimono rental day! *Ning helped PY with make-up, so some Japanese guys can look her way haha~* Potato and I left earlier to meet Galvin and Joan at the bus stop to take bus 207 to go to Kyoetsu Kimono Rental. *It was so darn packed in the morning that we almost couldn’t squeeze off the door… and then to realise we’d alighted one stop earlier lol.*
We went to the main shop we thought we’d booked at, only to be told to go to another newer outlet some streets away. When we arrived, we took off an put on shoes and bags into a big bag they’d offer each customer. Ladies went up to the third floor to choose the kimonos (wow they have a huge variety, and different price ranges of course~), came down to the second floor to do our hairstyle (could choose from three different types, and we got to select a bag and our own hair accessories too, which I was bad at but glad Joan helped me pick a nice one) and got dressed by the pros, before finally slipping on our geta at level one. *Thumbs up to professionalism and service from the Japanese! Did my hair in 15minutes.*
The guys were already done! So here you see PotaTOHs in Kimono~ *He didn’t want to wear before the trip, but changed his mind to配合我haha!* I thought we looked not bad! And as it was winter, he rented an extra “coat” on the outside to keep himself warmer. *Payment was made before we went off outside, and mine was 5000, and we all had to return it by 6pm the day.*

When Ning, PY and Francine were ready too, 7 of us浩浩荡荡walked into the cold woots~ Decided to have lunch at this coffee and onigiri café called Kiyomizu Stand, which was just opened for a month or so back then. They offer simple food set like 2 rice balls with miso soup and pickles for 500, and we all went for that. *7 of us almost “wiped out” all the available onigiri they had that day lol!*
I think I had the Chinese cabbage and kelp one and the tuna ones… pretty satisfied. We sat at the second floor, and the staff was nice enough to offer to take photos for us too. Next up, we left for Nijo-jo Castle on the bus~ As we were wearing kimonos, we had some other tourists coming up to take photos with us while we were nearing Nijo-jo castle. *Entry was 600 each.*
Nijo-jo Castle was built in 1603 by Tokigawa Ieyasu, the founder and first Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1867). He was the one who unified Japan after a long period of civil war, and gave more than 260 years of peace and prosperity (15 generations) to Japan. The Castle served as the Kyoto residence of the Shogun on very rare occasions when he visited the Imperial Capital. It staged the opening and closing ceremonies of the last period of the feudal rule, as well as the starting point of the creation of the modern Japanese state. It was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994.
No photos were allowed inside the Castle, so we only followed the routes and marvelled at the Ninomaru-goten Palace, that had over 3600 wall paintings. However, we took some photos at the Ninomaru Garden… the area was very pretty.
We crossed the Honmaru East Bridge to reach the Honmaru Garden, and climbed up to one of the watch towers. *Part of the Honmaru-goten Palace and Gardens was under construction it seemed.* Bought a postcard of Kyoto (110) before I left. *The group "自导自演" some random video with Ning chasing Potato lol~*
We took a bus to Kiyomizudera temple after that. They randomly went into a龙猫shop, so I followed suit. Walked through winding slopes and streets filled with old ancient flavours of Kyoto~ very enjoyable. Potato bought chestnut Dorayaki to try too, and some of them went to Starbucks haha.
Reached Kiyomizudera temple close to sunset time. The place was packed with people! After that, Galvin accompanied PY to explore further inside (paid entry) while the rest of us went shopping. *Bought myself three boxes of green tea tidbits for 2400).* Ning, Potato, Francine, Joan and I went into a pickles shop to have some snacks too.
Returned our kiminos and PY suggested we go drinking, so we randomly popped into one bar, which was already close to closing by the time we went in. I tried the Kolsch, Alto beer and India Pale Ale, and I thought I liked the Alto beer’s taste the most.
Got hungry and I remember walking quite some distances before we finally settled into a soba and udon place called茉莉花at Gion area. I liked my curry tofu udon!
We walked on, exploring the area after dinner, and had the famous Melonpan too. *Lucky us, we were first in queue when the new batch came out.* It was crusty on the outside, and sweet and warm inside~ yums.

Anyway, I’d researched and planned to bring them to this somewhat famous Monk Bar at Kyoto, but a pity the minute we opened the door, the boss politely turned us away. *Weird as the place didn’t look full.* Somehow, I didn’t feel welcomed by him, and anyway, we’d already had beer earlier, so it wasn’t a pity to miss this novelty.
On the way back, Potato and I bought some pasta (two for 880) from the Family Mart for our breakfast the next morning.
