Backdate: Mauritius Jun 2023 Day 6

11/6/23 Sun: Quite a ‘slack’ day compared to other days on the trip because yours truly couldn’t make the trip to Le Pouce mountain haha~ We had bread for breakfast at our Airbnb. WL and WS headed to the zoo today while PotaTOHS drove up north to Pamplemousses to have Snack Kwan Peng for lunch! *Saw a wedding along the road…*

It took us about 1.5 hours to drive and park nearby the eatery. There was already a short queue so we had to wait for about 15 minutes for the mine bouilli we wanted. I was a little worried at first because everyone sounded like they spoke French and we could only speak English but it turned out the boss was very friendly and fluent in English too. He even introduced us to the assortment of toppings we could choose from.

I had the salmon mine bouille because they ran out of octopus while Potato had the beef one. Costed us rs405 in all and I thought it was not bad, albeit the noodles became a bit nua towards the end. The portion was big and a bit “overkill” for me because my stomach was still recovering from yesterday.

Toppings-wise, Niouk yen was interesting… the fishball was a bit nua compared to the usual ones we ate, but the prawn one (siew mai-look-alike) was nice. The lamb meatball (dark brown) was a bit too much for me though. Also, they call their white dumplings “shao mai” and I preferred the veggie one over the chicken one. The sparkling apple juice was good and the pear one (rs90) was not bad either. After half an hour there, we drove over to Grand Baie beach, which was only a 15-min drive away.

The water was indeed clear and “blue” liked Mike said. Saw many boats and people who gathered there on a Sunday afternoon to swim and play poker games. *Saw a “temple-look-alike” restaurant across the beach too.*

Then we moved up Northwards a bit more and walked at a beach opposite an island called Gunner’s Quoin. Also visited the Catholic Church, Notre-Dame Auxiliatrice de Cap Malheureux, which was known for its bright red exterior.

It got quite windy at some point and while I got down to take some photos, Potato parked his car “the beng style” (no rules) on the beach lol~ We drove back to Cascavelle Shopping centre by 5.45pm to meet WS and WL, who took a public bus back from the zoo haha. They bought two-piece meal (rs139) from KFC as dinner.

Got back to our Airbnb at 6.30pm. I ate our tom yam cup noodle for dinner. We played Dominoes and Yaniv together at night~
