Backdate: Malaysia Ipoh Dec 2024 Day 1 & 2

22/12/24 Sun: Ian came to pick PotaTOHs and Fran before we went to Tuas checkpoint at 10+am. Potato looked like he had stomach flu and vomitted on the car once I think, unlikely from the zichar dinner the night before because Ian and I were okay, so he was sleeping for the first half of the trip on the car. Fran also felt unwell.

There were unexplainable jams on the expressways which got us shaking our heads… poor driver Ian haha. Took our lunch break at R&R Seremban North bound and had Ramly Burger and refuel from 2.45pm to 4pm. Fran and I also bought four tarts from The Wunderfolks as a treat for Ian's 36th birthday but they were meh somehow... maybe because we were all quite tired.

After Potato felt better, he drove for the last stretch towards Ipoh. The weather was rather cranky on the way too and when he took over the steering wheel, there was a crazy downpour! It was about 8pm when we got near to our hotel in Ipoh, so it was a nine-hour drive in total whoa.

Here's a look at The Horizon (S$262 for four pax for two nights). It's a condominium unit but the whole building seems to be rented out for stays.

Went to煜龙阁nearby for dinner from 8.30pm to 9.15pm. The food smelled great when we walked in!

The cabbage egg soup was good, the mushroom minced meat tofu was nice. The salted fish veggie was not as nice but still not bad among the dishes we ordered. Their nonya-style tilapia tasted sweet and sour~ good. Also, it was冬至and they gave us 汤圆! Dinner costed us RM147.3.

Went to a convenience shop across the road to get shampoo and some necessities that were lacking at the stay.

23/12/24 Mon: Slightly gloomy morning but it's nice to see the mountains in the surrounding areas from our balcony. Took a Grab out at 9.15am for our dim sum breakfast at Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum.

There was some queue but they were quick. We were in there from 10.15am to 10.45am. The dim sum kept coming and they were all warm and yummy! Satisfying breakfast for us and it's value-for-money at RM 129.3.

Walked to Concubine lane, literally only occupying one street before ending up having coffee at Old Town Coffee from 12 to 2pm. I had their matcha ta fu hua (RM12). It just tasted sweet and bitter at the same time lol.

We had late lunch at restoran Thean Chun from 2 to 3.15pm. I liked the ambience... bustling with life! There were a number of stalls within one coffee shop which was nice.

Ian said the fishball bee hoon (RM7) was nice. Fran’s chee cheong fun was RM5.5 and the popiah costed RM 7~ yums. My chicken and prawn hor fun (RM 10) was interesting and I quite enjoyed it.

We took a rest back at our stay before three of us took a Grab to Ipoh Night Market. *The Grab driver was funny haha.* Fran didn't join us because she was running a fever. There were quite a number of food stalls... like a pasar malam. We were there from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

Ian ate the nasi lemak (RM 20) with cow lungs but it was so-so. Potato had not much appetite, so he went for the wan tan mee (RM 7). I ordered nasi kerabu (RM 20). I enjoyed the salted egg with raw veggie but the chicken was a bit tough, albeit still not bad.

Also got ourselves a huge Bandung to share for only RM 5 and it’s not too sweet. Life's simple pleasures haha~
