Backdate: Iceland June 2024 Day 15

12/6/24 Weds: Had breakfast at the common dining area at 7+am. Tried canned strawberries for the first time and it was plain sweet. *He even cut the rock melon nicely.*

We drove off at 8.30am to return the car to Avis Rental. The refill for 10.42 litres of petrol to return full tank to them costed 3341 ISK. While we were waiting at the lobby for the shuttle service back which required another 30 minutes or so, I saw a big-sized lady with a small bag and was joking about it but that remark sort of “saved” Potato because it was then he realised he’d left his black army sling bag in the car and that contained his passport omg! *所以有时候“说废话”搞不好还会帮到人呢哈哈。*

Packed our luggage in the hotel at 9.15am and shopped a bit. Potato bought a small whale and puffin drawstring bag (1980 ISK, S$19.27) for Luke and Liv while I got a magnet (595 ISK, S$5.79) and a Geysir coaster (690 ISK, S$6.72) for my brother. Some of their souvenirs are cute and “true”! The fact that Icelandic words are so hard to pronounce and locals like to lump words together to create a longer word somemore lol! Also, we were both fortunate and unfortunate to have gone through many kinds of weather bar thunderstorm.

After that, we went to Three Coats for lunch. It was a restaurant I googled online that had puffin, whale steak and horse meat etc Iceland dishes and we wanted to try it before leaving Iceland. Time was rather tight for us because it only opens at 11.30am while we had a Flybus to catch at 12.30pm, which includes another 15 minutes or so of walk back to the bus stop near Skuggi Hotel.

But nothing stopped us from “vacuuming” food as usual lol! We shared their smoked puffin breast meat (2950 ISK) appetiser which had a gamey taste but went well with mustard sauce. My pan-fried halibut with langoustine and langoustine sauce (4550 ISK) was disappointing though. The fish was a bit tough and it’s a bit salty overall. Potato had whale steak in pepper sauce (6590 ISK) which was not bad but a bit salty too. It tasted like pork liver haha.

While making payment at the counter, we saw they had sea-bird egg available only till June 14! We didn’t try it because we only saw it last minute and did not want to risk eating it raw. Plus, 1150 ISK was not cheap either.

Brisked walk back, collected our luggage from the hotel’s front counter and caught the Flybus at 12.30pm phew! Arrived at Keflavik International airport at 1.50pm, bought a really nice Gin for Ian (S$50) which we all loved, and boarded FI 454 at 3.30pm. *They gave me the Exit row on Iceland Air… so much legroom.* Touched down in Heathrow T2 at 8.10pm before taking SQ 321 at 10.05pm bound for Singapore.

13/6/24 Thurs: The 13-hour flight was most turbulent towards and at Yangon area and just slightly after that. I thought the two meals served were too far apart… more than eight hours I think? I was working and watching movie on board so I felt so hungry I could not take it, even if I ate a cold vegetarian sandwich and some snacks in between.

We arrived on time at 6.10pm but the jet lag was real. I could not keep my eyes open throughout the Grab ride home. At night, I saw that my feet were visibly swollen after the long-haul flight even though I went toilet almost 10 times on SQ 321. *Topped up S$1600 and spent S$1400 in my Youtrip wallet in Iceland~ good estimation eh? Lol.*
