Backdate: Iceland June 2024 Day 10
7/6/24 Fri: Woke up at 8am and it’s a nice surprise because we had sun this morning! Ate breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, which reminded me of Africa because of the bright interior. *ate more since we were going to hike later~* The smoked mackerel and tuna pate went well with the cucumber and pancake.
Blessed with good weather and we were off to Jokulsarlon viewpoint at 9.45am to see Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon because the Zodiac Tour we booked this morning was cancelled a few days ago due to strong wind predicted this morning. *parking was 1000 ISK* Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon was such a beauty, but the sun was glaring too. There were many tourists around but the amount of glaciers we could see simply “won” New Zealand hands down! *I picked up one of the ice and it was crystal clear!* Saw one duck chasing another and we joked it’s like a couple quarrelling haha~ Anyway, we really wanted to take in the surroundings as much as we could. *Could stare into this scenery forever… as long as there’s no wind lol!*We walked up and down the small slopes nearby, and also walked onto a platform to take photos… moments when I felt really close to the glaciers! *张开翅膀,迎向未来。到底什么样的新未来等着我呢?期待尽快与带给我新展望的您相遇!* Saw people kayaking, albeit with a bit of difficulty winding through the pieces of glaciers.Spotted a duck resting behind the rocks as we walked towards Diamond Beach. It was filled with black sand and quite slippery. Some of the ice washed ashore were huge.
Queued
for lunch at Heimahumar local langoustine truck at 12.15pm. Took out food to
one of the benches by Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and damn it was very cold when
the wind blew. But, the lobster soup (2100 ISK) was good and the langoustine
roll (2200 ISK) was shiok.
Half
an hour later, we drove towards Múlagljúfur Canyon for our afternoon hike. *Saw
Fjallsárlón Glacier in front and what a sight!* Got to Múlagljúfur Canyon
at 2pm and Potato led the way up. There were not too many hikers. The wind was
very strong at times and it got hotter as we climbed up.
There were also many loose rocks and some fine sand paths as we walked, so it got slippery sometimes. *He waited for me patiently as I took photos.* There was a point when I dared not look down because the path ahead was only a thin stretch. Furthermore, the wind was very strong so we did not stand too close to the edges too. The waterfall was pretty and the rainbow reflection was pure magical.
I
was too tired to advance further up to the top, so Potato, who has always been
understanding, agreed we turn back down. The two-hour hike was not too
demanding physically, and we rested for half an hour in between too, so I was just
glad to have Potato’s company for my hikes! <3
Next,
we drove to Útsýni yfir jökul, or “view over the glacier” viewpoint. The wind
was crazy when we were walking towards it! We even heard one of the ice
glaciers on top broke and saw it flip a bit! It was another place for us to
marvel at nature but as it was too cold, we probably left after being there for
15 minutes or so.
Got back to our hotel at 6pm. Was trying to get close to the sheeps in the farm in front of our hotel but they ran away when I moved closer lol. Also saw this Border Collie chasing after a mother and daughter, who looked like the owners, as they walked from one area to another.Ate “comforting food” aka cup noodles for dinner at 6.30pm hehe. This dumpling tasted better than their红油抄手’s version of it.
