Backdate: New Zealand Kaikoura + Christchurch + Twizel + Lake Tekapo Dec 2023 Day 11

21/12/23 Thurs: Checked out and got to Kaikoura Bakery at 9am to have breakfast. *They were mainly Asian staffs there..* Potato had Flat White (NZD 5.5) sausage roll (NZD 5.3) which tasted more like luncheon meat to me and I picked a more “luxurious” one – seafood roll with mussel, prawn and crabstick (NZD 8.5)~ it was so good because the sour sauce went so well with it! *Hey that was Kaikoura so need to eat more seafood hehe~*

Finished our breakfast in half and hour and we drove for two-and-a-half hours to Christchurch Riverside Market for lunch. *Parking costed NZD 5. Was NZD 4.3 an hour.* There were lots of eateries and a few restaurants here. We decided on a miso ramen (NZD 18.5), which had weird ginger taste in the soup, the noodles were not cooked well and the beansprouts were not cooked through. Disappointing. Luckily, the salmon avocado roll (NZD 7.9) we bought from a Japanese lady’s stall was not bad.

It was another close to four hours of drive to Lake Pukaki and Potato took a break. *We were both stunned by how blue the lake was… very pretty.* Anyway, he felt peckish so we had salmon at Mt Cook Alpine Salmon shop…NZD 13 for 100g of salmon sashimi~ so shiok!

Arrived at Mackenzie Country Hotel (S$442.04 for two pax for three nights) at 5pm. Rested for a short while and we drove over to Lake Tekapo for dinner at The Better Batter at 5.15pm. *Lake Tekapo looked more greenish from the surface… maybe not as deep as Lake Pukaki.*

There was quite a queue at the stall run by three Asians, so we waited probably for half an hour or so before our dinner was ready. He had the fish n chips set (NZD 17) and it was the best we’d had in New Zealand, really. I ate the fried squid set (NZD 17) which was a bit salty but still not bad. The best thing about the set? There’s salad omg! I missed vegetables so much~ *I know kids love to play with the seagulls but some parents still encourage them to feed, which they should not, and then we have seagulls flying all around while we were eating tsk.*

Took a short walk and photos of Lake Tekapo~

Also saw “rolling clouds” over the mountains on our drive back to Lake Pukaki… always loved such views. We admired the scenery at Lake Pukaki’s lookout point and Mt Cook was beautiful… *The sun and the wind though omg.*

Got back to our hotel at 8.30pm and it had been long hours of driving for Potato today… on and off, 辛苦老公啦! *Saw some stars outside our balcony late at night but it was the only night we got to see stars in the Dark Sky Reserve. Sky was cloudy the next two nights’ here.*
