Backdate: Mauritius Jun 2023 Day 10 & 11
15/6/23 Thurs: Woke up at 7.15am and the WW couple drove PotaTOHs over to Henrietta Bus Station area half an hour later to meet our guide, Matthieu, before the start of our hike to 7 Cascades (Tamarind Falls). The three-hour hike (S$87.11 for two pax) was supposed to start at 9am, but we waited around for some of the group members that were late.
We had a group of less than 20 people of different nationalities it seems. Matthieu spoke both French and English on the trip. We walked on muddy paths as it rained the day before and then held on to branches as we walked downwards towards the waterfalls…
There were seven waterfalls to be seen in all. Matthieu was
very nice to help every participant take photos at certain points and they looked
great!
He also explained how termites helped with the ecosystem halfway through our walk before we had to climb up slippery and muddy grounds again to reach another waterfall. *It was very tiring for me as usual, but I always have Potato’s support! <3*There was one waterfall where he allowed participants to go and have a swim. Some jumped from the waterfall too. Then, we walked up and took photos looking outwards from the fall~Had to climb all the way back up, right next to where we started the descent down… easier than Le Morne but still very tiring for me and my muscles haha. WL and WS came to pick us up at about 12.30pm and we drove to a random place, parked and had Nasi Briyani (rs125 each) for lunch at a random eatery by the roadside. *The portion was huge!*
Drove back to our Airbnb by 2pm and we played Yaniv for a bit and napped before packing our luggage to leave at 5.30pm for the airport. Also refueled the car for the last time just before reaching the airport, which was only a short drive away from our Airbnb.
I had arranged to meet Sachin at the airport’s arrival
terminal to return the car to him at about 6pm. *Helped a group of Chinese
tourists make out their departure times for their return flights to Beijing as
well.* Our Air Mauritius flight MK646 was delayed from 11pm to 1.15am, so
we had plenty of time at the airport. There wasn’t much choice for food so we
had chicken teriyaki from Subway, which tasted quite salty.
The guys helped change back some of our unspent Mauritian rupees to SGD at the airport and then we queued to check-in our luggage. We had so much time to spare, so we shopped around their Duty Free shop and bought two big Mauritian rum, one small set of five flavoured ones and a small bottle of chilli (EUR 52 which we paid using Mauritian rupees).
16/6/23 Fri: They were hungry by 11+pm, so we even bought a burger from Burger King at the departure lounge and toured the area because we could only board at 12.25am. We arrived at KL airport only at 12.25pm or so. Funny thing was, Potato and I were automatically checked-in on SQ113, which takes off at 2.30pm but WL and WS were checked-in onto the flight at 4.30pm instead.
So, we left the WW couple at the Old Town White Coffee because they were compensated with vouchers for the longer wait while we boarded SQ113 home. It had been a nice trip with them exploring Mauritius together, though they couldn’t participate in all the activities.
