Backdate: Mauritius Jun 2023 Day 9

14/6/23 Weds: We woke up at 8am and left for Blue Bay Marine Park at 9.15am. Our glass-bottom boat ride and snorkelling trip (S$107.30 for four pax) was planned for 10am. There were only four of us and the skipper on the small boat, which brought us further away from inlands and we saw many different species of fish under the sea... was already more worthy than our subscooter ride the day before.

The minute the uncle threw the bread into the blue sea though... those fishes "attacked like Piranhas" la lol. Saw a few other boats ferrying tourists around too. Anyway, Potato was the first to jump into the waters and gave us a gauge of how deep the area was... probably about 2m?

As the nervous non-swimmer I was, I took my time to go into the waters, even with the life jacket on (which was too big for me or too loose on me on hindsight because I had difficulty floating properly). *WS too but because she felt the water was too cold for her lol.*

We spent about 15 to 20 minutes playing in the clear blue waters. The fishes were so near me but I somehow couldn't touch them because they were so fast. Fed them bread a few times though haha. After we got up, I bought a bracelet (rs300) from the skipper since he made so many and was already trying to do a business.
He was friendly, sharing with us how sometimes tourists can see sea turtles in the area, but a pity, we didn't on that day. Returned to shore at 11.20am to change our clothes nearby. Tried some snacks before we drove to Pyramide Snack at Mahebourg to have Nasi Briyani for lunch. *Free parallel parking at roadside anywhere...*

Four of us shared one big plate of nasi briyani for only rs150 and also the chicken kebab, coke and sausage at rs195. The briyani and kebab were all delicious omg. Then, we walked at Mahebourg (Monday) market for a short while.

We saw a ice-cream van nearby and decided to try their ice-cream (rs75) but we could not choose the flavours but only either cup or cone. The ice-cream wasn't cold and the texture felt like it was on the verge of melting lol.
Took some photos nearby...

Then, we drove to Rault Biscuit Factory where we spent about half an hour there for the biscuit factory tour and some tasting (rs900 for four pax). We saw an Indian almond tree that was more than 100 years old and a lady explained and guided us through the different processes of making their biscuits.

The biscuits tasted too dry for our liking, albeit SS later shared with me that's her favourite biscuit when she was young.

Drove to Kingsavers first to buy some beer and the Saveurs Morisyen Pigment Limon and Rouge (rs99.80 per bottle) chilli paste before we headed back to our Airbnb to chill from 3 to 6pm.

In the evening, we drove out to this western seafood restaurant called La Vielle Rouge for dinner. I never would have found this place if not for Google and in fact, many of the dining places in Mauritius because it's like out of nowhere in a random residential area there pops a restaurant…

We waited for a while for the food. It wasn't busy at the family-run restaurant but they didn't have lobsters, so we had others instead. Their shrimp in garlic sauce was good and the bread was soft too.

I thought the curry in my seafood curry rice (750rs) could be thicker and spicier but it was okay overall. Potato had a medium rare beef set while WL ate smoked swordfish pasta. *The chocolate ice-cream we had was much better than the one in the afternoon lo.*

The receipt was handwritten by the lady owner too!
