《블랙의 신부》+ “3 Body Problem” + “Singletasking: Get more done one thing at a time” + dinner with SS, MT & LC @ 锅里香 + Parents’ Day dinner + dinner with Jess @ Hoodadak + Singapore Racing Awards 2023

10/5/24 Fri: Finished all eight episodes of 블랙의 신부(Remarriage and Desires).

Open but bad ending lol. I thought it would be a slow build-up for the female protagonist to take revenge but as the kind-hearted, good-natured No.1 lead, she was only “all words and no action” until very late in the show… then everything happened “too smoothly”.

Not much “skinship” between the leads either… very unromantic haha.

Rating: 2/5

PotaTOHs watched “3 Body Problem” together.

The story tells of astrophysicist Ye Wenjie and her belief that the “San Ti” would be a saviour to humankind before the whole saga began. Her decision at the base to respond to contact from an alien planet implicated a group of scientists in the present day, forcing them to confront humanity's greatest threat.

I enjoyed the story though I’m not good at Physics nor do I understand their terminology well. Yet, it was another “open ending” that left audience hanging. Well, I look forward to the second season.

11/5/24 Sat: Finished reading “Singletasking: Get more done one thing at a time” by Devora Zack.

I quite enjoyed the read! I’ve always thought I’m not one good at multi-tasking but it seemed multi-tasking is a requirement in life that many “superman and superwoman” can do it well, until I learned that single-tasking was actually the way to go!

By the way, “multi-tasking” does not mean listening to music and exercising at the same time. The brain can process two tasks when one or both do not require our conscious thought.

I agree with Zack that people “short-circuit” because they do too many things at one go. We feel the happiest, most creative and productive when we’re completely immersed in what we’re doing. For me, whenever I attend my exercise classes, read a book, cook, or watch a drama I enjoy etc.

Bought my walnuts (1kg for $10) at Albert Centre before meeting SS, MT and LC at锅里香for dinner. *LC’s mum, maid and two sons, SA and YA were there too~* It was a nice recommendation by SS because I liked their spicy蒜泥白肉, chicken hotpot and clam hotpot. The ladies added three bottles of青岛啤酒for an extra $15 too haha. *Came up to $32 a person.* It had been some time since I saw them but it feels so nice to update each other on our lives and hear our difficulties out.

Did my foot bath at night and my feet were “lobster red” after 20 minutes of soaking lol. I did not feel any bit of giddiness like the last two times though, to which I take that it’s a good sign.

12/5/24 Sun: Had Japanese curry noodle with chicken, shrimps, potatoes, onions and carrots with cabbage, tofu and wakame soup cooked by Potato for dinner~ nice!

13/5/24 Mon: Good Pilates Reformer session with Chisa as usual.

Shared the tarts Carol got for me from Pâtisserie CLÉ’s Dairy Farm outlet, which was opened by her niece, with Trinice and Triston. I had a bit of the Orh Blanc tart and found it quite nice, chocolate hazelnut tart was sweet.

I whipped up cabbage with black fungus, scrambled egg with onion and mushroom and the tofu cold dish I hadn’t done in a long time for dinner.

Potato and I tried the lemon meringue tart at night… he thought it was fine but it’s a bit too sour for my liking.

16/5/24 Thurs: Potato cooked Okonomiyaki with shrimp, tuna, mushroom, cabbage and onion tonight! It’s a mix of 1/3 water, 1/3 chicken stock and 1/3 corn flour for the batter before he poured the ingredients in and topped it off with the Okonomiyaki sauce from NTUC, mayonnaise and bonito flakes after he pan-fried the mixture beautifully~

It was very yummy although the sauce made it quite sweet and I thought one was good enough for two people to share already.

Did my own version of Yin Yoga cum Wheel Yoga practice session at night and I must say… I enjoyed doing it under dim lights in the living room and when it’s so quiet outside!

17/5/24 Fri: Attended Car-Streng-Dio after a long while and sweated a lot haha.

Did Masa’s Wafu-style pork cabbage spaghetti for dinner and I substituted Dashi with chicken stock and Japanese cooking wine with rice wine for the stock and it turned out yummy during the process… a pity I cooked the spaghetti a bit too long in the end and it turned out a bit soft.

18/5/24 Sat: Took a photo with my mentor, Lydia, outside of the weighing room.

Had smoked duck breast meat with mushrooms and cucumber slices, miso soup with enoki mushrooms to go with cold soba for dinner after race day duty~ yummy!

19/5/24 Sun: PotaTOHs had the self-heating rice meals I bought for lunch. He had the beef tomato curry-flavoured one while I ate the lean pork one. It was not a lot nor that tasty but still okay. I had originally bought them to bring it on our trip to Iceland but did not know airlines cannot accept self-heating meals for check-in nor carry-on.

20/5/24 Mon: Good Pilates reformer workout on my Monday mornings as usual. *Renewed my package and whoa, the price increased $100 in two years for the 20-session equipment package! Oh well the new package should last me till end of December. Let’s see how from there.*

Tried making my own酸辣汤because I loved having this outside and it didn’t seem difficult to make. I realised it required a lot of white pepper, light soy sauce and black vinegar! I guessed I put too much water for two also… hence some leftovers were thrown away in the end. The sweet black vinegar we had was nice usually, but too much became too sweet for me here, so maybe we can use apple cider vinegar in future instead?

21/5/24 Tues: Bro and I shared and ordered fish-flavoured eggplant, prawn paste chicken, pork ribs, seaweed soup and Thai fried tofu ($63.70) for parents’ day dinner. The prawn paste chicken and eggplant were still not bad.

22/5/24 Weds: Practised cycling with Potato for an hour at the MSCP near our place this morning and I went up and down the slopes successfully hehe. He also reminded me about the changing of gears while cycling and how lower gear helps when we cycle upslope but engaging in higher gear while cycling normally meant we could go at faster speed more easily.

Met Jess for dinner at Hoodadak. I had the Sundae Gukbap ($21) while she ate the Dwaeji Gukbap ($19). *omg they had chuka wakame as part of their side dish!* The soup tasted rather milky and it was okay I guess. There were two types of sundae: one with Korean glass noodles and the other one had more ingredients like pork and chives in it. Nothing to shout about I thought.

Had been a few months since we last met and it was nice to hear updates about PH and her work. *I should worry more about myself since I need to look for a new job, right? Lol.*

23/5/24 Thurs: Attend mat Pilates from HPB workouts in the morning… okay session.

I said I wanted a meal with prawns, so Potato looked up for recipes online and found one which was not pasta-based haha. He tried this Mexican prawn soup, which was more like a stew and the pairing with rice was really delicious. The original recipe had avocado (but the one he bought was not ripe yet), lime juice, celeries and coriander, but he replaced them with Japanese cucumbers and lemon juice, and added shimeji mushrooms instead.

Also spent half an hour or so doing my Yin and Wheel Yoga session tonight, but I thought I rushed through it a little hehe.

24/5/24 Fri: Did Car-Streng-Dio in the morning. I bought two Vietnamese fried pork vermicelli ($6 each) from Happy Hawkers for our dinner and we both quite liked it. Also ate the instant红油抄手云吞from开小灶 ($5)… okay but not something I’d buy again.

25/5/24 Sat: Ian came to pick me up after work and we headed home for homecooked salmon, mushrooms, maitake mushrooms and cherry tomatoes spaghetti Potato cooked for us for dinner! 很够味but Ian was right, the cheaper spaghetti I bought probably wasn’t that nice and he recommended us some other brands to consider for future use. Had a good chat into the night!

26/5/24 Sun: PotaTOHs slept at 1+am yesterday and damn my body clock’s really used to the usual timings so after I turned off the alarm clock at 8am… I knocked out till 9.30am lol.

Tried the Zi Shan self-heating Japanese ramen Tonkotsu and Spicy Tonkotsu flavours I bought on Shopee for dinner. My original tonkotsu with char siew meat was not bad but Potato’s spicy one with beef had mala taste to it.

27/5/24 Mon: Good Reformer Pilates session with Chisa this morning.

Cooked meatless dinner for us and we both thought the “bite” of the chives and egg dumplings were better pan-fried than cooked in soup.

28/5/24 Tues: *Weird red bumps and rashes on my limbs since Monday night and applying snake powder and thermal water spray helped temporarily, but as it did not heal completely by Tuesday night, I took Zyrtec-R to help. Relieved the itch to a huge extent by Wednesday morning.* Helped with media registration and attended Singapore Racing Awards 2023 at the Derby at STC.

Had homegrown band 875 serene the crowd. I liked the slow cooked salmon with pickled pear and orange salad, yuzu foam, crab croquettes and trout roe dressing but the lobster bisque with pepper seafood dumpling, lemon oil and chives was too salty.

The roasted Barramundi was meh. Dessert was similar to last year's. Probably the last Racing Awards in Singapore's history so it was kind of bittersweet, but congrats to all winners!
