Backdate: Vietnam Sa Pa & Hanoi Sep 2023 Day 6

15/9/23 Fri: The sky cleared up this morning. We hired the same cab driver from yesterday (VND 200,000) to take us to the Interbus Lines Sapa Office pick-up area and left our Airbnb at 6.20am. Booked a one-way sleeper bus to Hanoi on Klook for S$28.15 for two pax. There was free wifi on board and we were assigned our seats while waiting for the bus at 7.10am.

The bus departed at 7.30am. PY got car sick on the six-hour journey, but I was fine, and I preferred the sleeper bus over the overnight train. We went to the toilets (VND12,000) and ate two sausages (VND20,000) at the two break-stops in between. *Bought the tickets for the Thang Long Water Puppet show (S$13.30 for two pax) but due to a fire outbreak in Hanoi, the whole country was in mourning and so the show was cancelled.*

After we alighted with our luggage, we walked for a while before we arrived at Chien Loan Bun Cha Nem Cha Ruoi. Decided on their bun cha and banh tom. The shrimp cakes were okay but the bun cha set was so nice we’d order a separate serving of bun cha again (VND 130,000 in total) haha! Very satisfied after lunch and we finally reached our Airbnb at 3pm. The lift only brought us to the seventh floor and we had to climb up a very narrow flight of stairs up to the eighth floor, where our Airbnb was. *My medium-size luggage was a burden, so was wearing long dress lol.*

It was small but comfortable, and we had a balcony area too. The lights were spoilt but PY wanted the “ambience”, so we asked the Airbnb owners to repair them hehe.

Off we went wandering around the neighbourhood and stopped by a random dessert shop we’d see earlier with long queue. We wanted each of everything available (VND35,000), which were essentially a mix of fruits and jellies.

PY visited some handicraft shops and soon we ended up in a Chinese restaurant in an alley. Climbed upstairs to the fourth floor for a view of Hoan Kiem lake. Took silly pictures there and my banana strawberry drink was so-so. PY had lotus tea… two drinks for VND80,000. *We talked about her past relationships as well hehe~*

In the evening, we walked the Hanoi Night Market. Had BBQ street food: pork, chicken, prawn and fish cake for VND60,000 and one cup of sugarcane juice for VND10,000.

For dinner, I wanted to have pho and so we ended up eating chicken pho and dried glass noodles (VND80,000) at Pho Ga 26. I preferred the former but PY liked the latter, which I thought was a bit salty.

Walked past the Loc Tai House, which was a dessert shophouse where we went for dessert the next afternoon. *Bought 5L of mineral water for VND35,000.*
