"Nine Puzzles" + "La Palma"
22/6/25 Sun: Am still coughing, sneezing and having lots of phlegm and it looked like Potato could have caught the virus from me too as he felt the itch in his throat once in a while too. He cooked liang teh for us again.
For dinner, he cooked minced meat with celery and shimeiji shrooms with penne in tomato sauce~ al dente texture and it was good!
23/6/25 Mon: Flu got slightly better this morning. Only eight students in PL’s deep stretch class so we could use two mats per student. My back is very stiff somehow because I could only use one hand to support my body as we下腰lol.Potato cooked daikon miso with chicken stock soup for the heaty me~ with cabbage, shimeiji shrooms, egg and somen~ simple tasty soup but when I mixed the yolk in, it had another creamier taste, which was nice too.24/6/25 Tues: Took one Zyrtec yesterday night and it helped with my phlegm and runny nose, albeit I still experienced some of it and cough since this afternoon. Potato bought川贝杏仁汤from Hock Hwa after his hair cut and cooked it for me as it helps with reducing phlegm and cough. So sweet. The drink was quite sweet and the taste of almond was obvious haha.
He cooked one of my favorite recipes from Masa… marinated chicken with nuts and cold udon for dinner tonight! Granted the sauce was a bit more sour than when I made it last time because we changed the brand of the black vinegar we have, it was still very delicious.
We finished watching "Nine Puzzles" at night.
PotaTOHs enjoyed this mystery crime thriller. Profiler Yoon Ena (김다미) first found a piece of puzzle after her superintendent uncle died at home when she was a high-school student, and detective Kim Han-saem (손석구) had suspected her as the murderer since the start. But somehow as more and more puzzle pieces were sent to Yoon and more linked cases were uncovered, Kim began working hand in hand with the quirky profiler to solve the mystery.
It was nice watching them reveal the murderer in the end. Again, the motive for the was another case of "vigilante justice"... controversial. Also, lots of discussion between us as the drama progressed haha~
25/6/25 Weds: Did TCM massage this morning and HL shared about her past relationships with me lol. I had quite a rough time lying down on my stomach as the nose was blocked, albeit also “runny” at the same time.
Very long day at work as I also tried my hands at tipping for the first time for the Malaysian races this weekend omg. Luckily, I had Potato who did all the prep work for dinner. He was trying to emulate our sukiyaki dinner at Asari Honten in Hakodate, but with pork belly slices instead of A5 wagyu beef lol, butter instead of beef fat, and added his own pickled radish slices too.
I could taste effort (he even did the "star cut" at the back of the mushrooms!) in the dish~ it was very heartwarming! Granted it cannot be compared to the one in Japan, I still enjoyed our home-prepped sukiyaki a lot!
26/6/25 Thurs: Linh and I attended Phoebe’s pilates intermediate class this morning. We did half mat and half on the reformer. Gosh my hamstrings were very tight somehow and I could feel my triceps after some work on the reformer.
Ian and Potato joined us for lunch at Yuhua Market where they recommended the hot plate dumplings from the Chinese stall. My酸辣面 ($4.5) and the hot plate dumplings were not bad, but I really liked their红油抄手!
Came home to another long day at work with my interview and article on Aloysius Hamsha and other stuff~ my eyes are so tired!
27/6/25 Fri: Had salmon teriyaki, cabbage with shimeiji shrooms and omelette for dinner~ also cooked by Potato! Love it as usual!
28/6/25 Sat: Tried composing melody for the chorus written by my classmates and I in today’s lesson with Eric. It was quite fun but I never equalled humming a song and recording it to creating a melody lol. He taught us on motifs and some applications online like Bandlab and fadr that one can use to help with extracting vocals from songs, and getting instrumentals.
Finished "La Palma" on Netflix.
Though the idea of a "megatsunami" has been debunked, the effect in this limited drama series was still quite surreal... albeit I disagreed that the daughter would have survived the tsunami in the plane at the end too.
Some morally-questionable decisions made too, like whether making a public warning about a possible tsunami would raise panic and cause unnecessary chaos instead in such situations is quite a difficult one.
"Listen to nature" is what we learned at the end of the drama.
29/6/25 Sun: Had lunch with in-laws at Batok West hawker centre before Potato helped FIL with transferring data to his new iPhone 16.
He cooked prawn tomato spaghetti with celery, mushrooms, onions, garlic and scallions for dinner~ sweet but tasted good with some dash of tobasco!
30/6/25 Mon: Tried Ice's Barreless-Barre class for the first time this morning. It isn’t as tiring as Agnes or Esther’s classes, but it was intriguing to go with Ice’s routine as she has a background in ballet. I sweated the right amount I guess!1/7/25 Tues: A longer and more tiring Tuesday compared to my usual work on this day, so I took the opportunity to cook as a breather for my eyes! Stir-fried celery with enoki shrooms but had a hard time chopping up the sweet corns for my soup haha. Used chicken stock cube with carrots, onions, enoki shrooms and pork and cabbage dumplings from Hand In Hand… not bad but would have tasted even better with sweet vinegar I think.
2/7/25 Weds: My left hip had been aching again since I resumed wfh after Hokkaido, but I guess the gyrotonics class with Ishra helped this morning. Some basic moves that she reminded us like opening up our shoulders consciously or whenever we have time can help people like me who work on the computer all the time too.
Potato cooked my favourite tom yam with squid, enoki and lady fingers for dinner~ so yummy! The old cucumber soup with carrots, egg, red dates and tofu was good too~ *almost fully recovered from the viral infection except for occasional coughs, but I need more time for my voice because it cannot sustain that long… almost hoarse after 1.5 hours of tuition on oral…*
3/7/25 Thurs: Some good workout in Jac's Pilates intermediate class with Linh this morning~ I felt my lower back, abs and glutes~
4/7/25 Fri: Woke up and found itchy rashes on the right side of my stomach and the underside of my right arm hmph. It looks similar to the one I had before our trip to Iceland last year. But back then, we could still pinpoint the source to our sofa covers which probably still had traces of detergent, but this time I have no idea. But it’s most probably one of my clothes again given the rashes are all concentrated on the right side of the body…
