Yamuna Body Rolling + Gyrokinesis + elemen + Kaunta kaisendon with Potato & eye check & new glasses @ Paris Miki + 《哪吒之魔童降世》

15/3/25 Sat: Ate two mouthfuls of maggie mee yesterday night and I probably should not have half lied down straightaway to read my book because the stomach kept growling at night and I just could not fall asleep! *Not sure if Mr Bean’s matcha latte soy milk contained caffeine a not because I am rather sensitive to it and drank that at 3pm yesterday.*

Yamuna Body Rolling with Yan Loo this morning was great. It’s the subtle pulling and stretching of the muscles, as well as the conscious inhalation and exhalation targeted at different parts of the body (today mainly the chest and upper back) that releases the tension we hold onto, sometimes even unknowingly. I’m keen to try more sessions.

Potato cooked Japanese curry with chicken, scallop, potatoes, carrots and onions for dinner~ yums!

16/3/25 Sun: My sweet Potato sneaked out to buy salmon don from Sushi Express this morning for my dinner knowing I would most probably be busy at work~ thank you dear!

17/3/25 Mon: Tried Gyrokinesis with Yin for the first time this morning. It's a lot of emphasis on the correct pelvic movements, spine alignment and breathwork. *Yin said there's something called "Gyro breath" but we were not taught yet.* Just lying on the floor and telling us to "activate the three holes (ladies, private parts) to lift one leg up without moving the rest of our body nor feeling the lower abdomen harden" was wierd/awkward/hard enough lol. The dynamic movements feel nice but it's hard to execute it smoothly and freely.

Restorative yoga with Yvonne was good as usual. Potato cooked cold soba with teriyaki salmon and stir-fried cabbage and carrot slices for dinner~ it was delicious, albeit Potato thought the pairing wasn't the greatest.

18/3/25 Tues: PotaTOHs went to elemen at Harbourfront Centre to eat the Blossom-Licious 8-course set menu for lunch ($58+) because I thought the photos looked so good~

It was not exceptional, but both of us liked the kimchi shiro miso stew that used Japanese white miso, kimchi, tofu, konjac and seafood mushrooms in it. *Drinking apple cider right after helped to clear the heat in the mouth.* I liked the sakura bibimbap onigiri too, in which the Japanese short-grain rice was dyed pink using beetroot and had minced mushrooms and an assortment of veggies as the fillings. The gochujang was a nice addition. The sparkling pink sea salt yuzu with sakura jelly drink was quite nice.

Potato cooked chicken in gochujang sauce and stir-fried snow peas, shimeiji shrooms and carrot slices for dinner.

19/3/25 Weds: PotaTOHs saw a “drenched rooster” at Tanjong Pagar haha. Anyway, we were supposed to eat 1-for-1 omakase lunch at Roku Sake bar but when we arrived, the place looks closed and after messaging them, I found out they were closed for cleaning. Even though the staff directed us to another outlet, I was already disappointed with no advance notice from them, hence we decided to eat at Kaunta instead.

I had the Hana kaisendon ($29.90+) while he ate the tokujo ($39.90+). It’s said to have 10 sashimi varieties with uni, ikura, kani and hamachi slices. Halfway through, the chef would pour sea broth in and it becomes a ochazuke.
Food was okay but Potato noticed a number of things that shows their service/hygiene were not up to standard and I agreed. Things like when the chef was holding his bowl up, the bottom of his bowl touched the sashimi in my bowl and the main chef who was washing a fish was making weird noises and talking, so it was not very hygienic nor considerate towards your customers sitting in a small area at the bar counter. Also, instead of saying “ochazuke”, the waitress told us it was “泡饭”, which was not the right term to use. It may sound we were being pickier than usual, but the main thing Potato reasoned was because of the price point ($83) and how Kaunta wanted to position themselves as “authentic Japanese restaurant”. Whatever they did above was not helpful to Kaunta’s image and hence they are far from being a real Japanese place. *A reminder to myself to re-consider these places that IG influencers kept promoting. Influencers cannot be trusted after all tsk.*
Maybe I just didn’t feel satisfied from lunch so I wanted to eat this watermelon cake ($8.5) from Sugar and Tease, just across Kaunta. It was yummy!

Checked my eye pressure at Paris Miki Takashimaya outlet because I’d been concern about my left eye pain recently. After a few puffs of air into my eyes, optometrist XN said they were 19.7 mmHg and 19.3 mmHg for my left and right eye respectively, which was in the normal range between 10 to 21mmHg (higher end of the normal range). She said because they are still normal and both pressure are similar, so there was no immediate call for concern.

Did my normal eye check and while my left eye’s myopia and astigmatism remained unchanged, my right eye’s astigmatism has gone up by another 25 degrees since my last check in November. So, my right eye’s myopia is now 575 degrees and astigmatism at 150 degrees. Then again, she said it’s normal for myopia degree to be more stable as an adult but astigmatism can still worsen with the usage of computers etc.

Again, her advice was that I could stick to my current glasses but because there’s an obvious blurring due to the worsening in astigmatism in my right eye, I decided to change my glasses to the most current prescription and hopefully, it would help resolve the issue of my eye pain somehow. Spent $446 on the ray ban frame, Zeiss clear lens and a blue guard coating this time, about more than a year since my current glasses bought in Dec 2023.

Ian and Linh came over and we bought dinner from the Bukit Batok West hawker centre on their first day of opening. The wanton mee was not bad, as well as some of the fried stuff. I thought my roasted pork hokkien mee ($8.30) and Ian’s lor mee was so-so.

20/3/25 Thurs: Mat pilates with Gary this morning was okay, albeit the rainy weather was a dampener.

Shiok~ had mum’s homecooked assam stingray, black bean chicken feet soup and scallops with spinach and mushrooms! The big mushrooms were especially nice!

Rating: 4.5/5

21/3/25 Fri: Did flow yoga and morning yoga with Ice this morning and I managed to complete an assisted headstand easily with the blocks and the wall! It’s nice to know that I can actually do it too after so many failures.
PotaTOHs had duck rice, fried chicken wings and 生煎包from the new Batok West hawker for lunch and they were not bad, especially the生煎包actually.
Potato cooked kimchi jigae with shrimp paste, scallops, cabbage, mushrooms, shimeiji, onions, carrots, enoki shrooms and刀削面. We thought it looked like a lot at first but we actually finished it lol~

22/3/25 Sat: So happy with YL’s Yamuna body rolling class this morning. I explained about the long-term ache I have on my lower left hip and she tailored the exercises to relieve that. We worked on the hamstrings first, then moved to the hips and glutes and side stretches. After every move, she would get us to stand with the feet parallel and feel the difference in the body and it’s always very obvious after completing one side.
After I told her the improvements and what I feel after every set of exercise, as well as how supine twist helps me too, she thought the origin of pain could be from my left QL deep muscles, albeit it is reflected on one point on the left lower hip. To counter this, I basically have to do more stretches and avoid sitting with legs crossed.

23/3/25 Sun: Potato's oyako don with cabbage and miso soup tonight was delicious!
24/3/25 Mon: Attended Gyrokinesis and restorative yoga this morning. Had meatless cai fan for dinner bought from the new Batok West hawker centre and although it's cheap ($3), the vendors were not generous with the portion at all.

25/3/25 Tues: Chicken drumstick set ($6) at Batok West hawker centre was only so-so. I prefer the stall in Le Quest's Koufu.
Potato seared salmon, mushrooms and shimeiji shrooms to go with aglio olio~ the salmon skin was crispy as ever!

26/3/25 Weds: Functional yoga with Yvonne this morning was nice. We used the ballet barre to do beginner pull-ups to train our arms.
Decided to try a recipe from IG and the eggs turned out really nice~ the pork belly with enoki was so-so. My mushrooms and cabbage were a bit burnt too… need to use more oil next time!

27/3/25 Thurs: Sweated a bit during mat pilates with Gary this morning, but I do find his classes repetitive after four lessons. Did TCM massage with HL this afternoon and although I sometimes enjoy her massage, but the fact she sometimes only massage some of the areas on one side and leave out the others on the other side is puzzling, albeit I think it's because she's either forgetful or not great on details. Like she said she wanted to let me try cupping on the stomach this time but in the end, she did not haiz. Also, with regards to my body constitution, sometimes she said it's热, sometimes湿热... I'm very confused too lol. *Shall finish this 10-session package and probably head eslewhere for massages after that.*

28/3/25 Fri: As usual, it was a good flow yoga and morning yoga with Ice today.
