CNY reunion dinner + 大年初一&初二visits + PotaTOH's early V-day dinner @ Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King + Farmily's CNY dinner

28/1/25 Tues: An okay Pilates reformer session with Monica this morning and came home to salmon and Chinese spinach cabonara spaghetti cooked by Potato~ he whipped it up in 15 minutes so fast!

Ate reunion dinner at my parents’ and as usual, we had steamboat~ mum still bought a lot of salmon this year lol. Headed back home and Ian and Linh came over to get the cny bag and mandarin oranges. That was also when Linh passed us the honey chrysanthemum and pineapple tart-flavoured ice-cream from her shop yay!

29/1/25 Weds: PotaTOHs went out to my in-laws at 9.30am for CNY visit!
He wrote words of blessings in Chinese for Luke and Liv hehe~ We player Carrom with the mini version he had but when the kids came, it was “havoc” lol. The younger ones were more into throwing the Carrom pieces around instead lol.
We had lunch with the family and FIL’s homemade fried虾枣was da bomb! I easily had 10 of that lol.

Meeting his cousins, nieces and nephews was a yearly affair and we spoke a bit. Ian and Linh came in the afternoon and we played mahjong together. Both Ian and Linh were new to the game but they learned very fast. Then we had the leftovers for dinner and a few more rounds of mahjong before we call it a night at 9.30pm. It was fun!
30/1/25 Thurs: PotaTOHs headed to my parents’ for lunch at 11am~ mum cooked the spread above! 阿姨and her family came not long after. As usual, my uncles and brother played mahjong after lunch while Potato, XY, SF and I went into the room to play Mysterium. It was funny seeing how “headache” the ghost always is, no matter who played the role lol.
We also played Yaniv which was a speedier game and also fun. 阿姨was giving二舅 some massage as we played games haha. Ended the night with a game of Unlock! *Hearing SF share her work trip to US and the break-in, then India and her Covid-19 and food poisoning experiences were quite scary.*
They bought yusheng, dragonfruit and salmon from Don Don Donki so everyone enjoyed lo hei before dinner! I loved the energetic vibe there, albeit dad was out playing games at his friend’s place then.

Always feels very nice to gather with my relatives on CNY once a year!

31/1/25 Fri: Long work day for us but Potato still cooked miso corn butter seafood ramen for dinner~ there were scallops, shrimp paste, soy beansprouts, Ajitama and enpiko shrooms too... very flavourful.

1/2/25 Sat: Had advanced lyrics writing class online today. Potato cooked red wine pork stew for dinner~ the red wine was smooth but I still could not finish it haha. The pork loin was a bit, but the stew was sour and peppery... not bad.

2/2/25 Sun: A long day at work even though there was only racing in Kuala Lumpur. There were many changes to the news layout and I ended up writing my first story on ST... and a pretty long one too. Am still unfamiliar with their house styles and the names of some jockeys and trainers, so it definitely took me longer to finish it. *not ideal to stare at the screen for four hours leh...* Potato whipped up chicken with bok choy and enpiko mushrooms and pork dumplings with carrots and sweet corn soup for dinner~

4/2/25 Tues: Sweated quite a bit at Vinyasa Flow class this morning. It was not very difficult but the continuous flow is always a challenge. Glad my splits on both sides are now almost there!

Saw a white-throated kingfisher when I was walking home after lunch too… beautiful as it stood out among the trees.

5/2/24 Weds: Pilates reformer (advanced) class with Belinda today was hard for me because there were lots of arm work and there’s a nagging ache on my left shoulder blade after Vinyasa flow class yesterday. I suspect it’s an old muscle inflammation because it’s not the first time I felt it, albeit the last was a long time ago.

Had tuition tonight so cooked two simple dishes for dinner. Should put more tomato paste into the prawns and scrambled eggs.

6/2/25 Thurs: Good rest day for me. Did not sleep too well yesterday night but the艾草贴helped relieved my aches by quite a bit. Had a good laugh watching “Whenever Possible” and did大光明修持法and化骨法this afternoon too.

Mum cooked shark’s fin soup for dinner again~ it’s a yearly affair during CNY period hehe. There were also air-fried chicken wings, nai bai and steamed fish fillet.

7/2/25 Fri: After tuition with Kelly, I met Potato for dinner at Sunnychoice Vegan cafe. We skipped Meatless Mondays this week, so had it tonight instead. My assam “fish” curry set ($9) was not bad. The curry was flavourful and I enjoyed their mock fish meat and lady’s fingers a lot. He tried their “bah kut teh” ($9) which was nice too.

8/2/25 Sat: Had lor mee ($4.5) at Eunos food market for lunch and it was not bad. I realised they might not take cash after queuing for a short while so I had to leave my queue to go and ask the aunty but after she said I could do so via Paynow, I returned to where I was but damn the guy, who stood behind me previously,  actually went "'scuse me?", signalling me to move behind him now. A bit annoyed but I did "leave" the queue for a short while la. But, I was happy to hear the aunty say an old uncle in front of me actually wanted to help me pay for my meal because I didn't have cash on me. See? There are nice people around too~ Anyway, a bit more theory in lyrics writing class this afternoon and XH said we would start writing lyrics from next week onwards.

Potato brought me to Singapore City Gallery since we had an hour or so before dinner at Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King. It was cool seeing Singapore's mini landscape and understanding our land use and future plans. A pity the exhibition closes at 5pm so we did not have time to see them all.
I wanted to eat the ramen at Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King as an early Valentine's dinner for us keke, but it was then that we realised they open full-day for weekends. There was no queue at 5+pm. Potato had their tonkotsu ramen ($12.8+) while I ate the same one but with red chilli oil ($13.8+). It was nice and the soup was "creamy" but got jelak towards the end. There were also free-flow hard-boiled eggs and marinated beansprouts. *Thanks for the treat big mao!*

9/2/25 Sun: Potato did all the food prep work for Farmily’s CNY steamboat dinner tonight! Fran bought yong tau foo ingredients and Ian bought pencai from Bellyumami for us to share~ It was quite nice. PY, Ian, Linh and Potato ate first, I joined in during my break at work and Wandi, Ning and Fran came not long after. Had talks and laughs in between dinner and drinks and ice-cream, also talked about a Farmily trip this year… hopefully we can get that to happen haha!

10/2/25 Mon: Deep stretch yoga with PL this morning was quite an intense and sometimes challenging one, but I felt good after the session.

Potato cooked Kal-guksu (soya bean broth somen) for dinner tonight. It was not as thick and the stir-fried mushrooms and onions went quite well with it. However, it’s still not a meatless dish I would turn to often in future.

11/2/25 Tues: Potato cooked chicken, maitake, shimeiji mushrooms and cherry tomatoes Aglio Olio for dinner tonight~ quite nice.

12/2/25 Weds: Had a small bowl of rice left from steamboat on Sun, so Potato suggested I make it into泡饭with scallops, cabbage and tau kwa in miso soup. Again, I had too much water so it was a bit diluted and too much for for a one-pax lunch lol.

Grilled the black pepper duck meat and stir-fried spinach with shimeiji shrooms to go with cold soba for early dinner~

13/2/25 Thurs: Had my last pilates reformer lesson with Belinda at Options Pilates this morning. It was the usual intensity in her class but at some point of time, I felt I was probably over-exerting a bit, and before I know it, the “fuzzy feeling” (probably lightheadedness) and fatigue I experienced before came back. I cannot recall the last time I experienced it but it almost always happens when I pushed myself over a limit and felt dehydrated. My lips were pale, according to Belinda, and I see “whiteout”… my vision was blurry and it was glaringly white in front of me. Sounds also became muffled, so I had to stop my exercise. I drank some water and Belinda passed me some sweets. I had to rest for 10 minutes before I could see better again and did cool-down by myself at the end. Googled online and saw that this sensation could be due to dehydration, low blood pressure after over-exertion, low blood sugar, poor ventilation, or even underlying conditions like anaemia. For me this round, I think it’s most probably a case of over-exertion and no hydration in between, which I would usually do in between classes. The other two students felt the room was stuffy, but that didn’t bother me though.

Have not eaten sea cucumber in a long while and mum cooked it for dinner tonight shiok~ There was Chinese spinach with abalone slices, radish and carrot in ginger soup and also steamed red grouper! *总是家里做的饭好吃~*
