MIL stay over after surgery + “Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths to keep Singapore going”

2/12/24 Mon: Attended restorative yoga class with Caroline at Paradigm Wellness this morning. There were only three students in class and it felt very cosy and peaceful. I enjoyed the music along with the moves Caroline taught us that were mostly simply stretches, including one where we pushed our chin backwards to help with head, neck and shoulder alignments. She said I can do that more often in between work or after too much time on the computer.

Walked over to Bodhi Meditation Centre to register for their 7-day stress relief meditation class in January. *It’s something new for me to be meditating with a big group but I hope it’s good!* Visited Kwan Im Thong temple and the “itchy” me decided to spend $10 for a random career fortune-telling at one of the roadside stalls. *Probably only 5% accurate. Sounded like a swindler haiz. It’s okay, I pay for a lesson learnt!*

Cooked udon with sutchi fillet and pork dumplings as dinner for myself since Potato went to JB with his colleagues today.

3/12/24 Tues: Had pilates reformer class this morning and I felt my obliques, especially the left-side one! Ate卤肉饭($5.9) for lunch at Jurong West Blk 503 but too much rice while taste was so-so. Went to buy sugar and oil for offerings to还太岁at the temple.

Saw MIL back home in the afternoon while Potato was cooking porridge for her for lunch. He and Ian fetched her from Woodlands Health Campus this morning. *Malaysia road trip sounds fun~ hopefully PotaTOHs are not too tired or touchwood sick from our Bhutan trip then!*

Only I went back to my parents for dinner while Potato took care of MIL, who was staying over at ours for the time being.

4/12/24 Weds: Tried Barre-less Sculpt class this morning with Esther. She has a very bubbly disposition and was very clear with her instructions. We made use of pilates ball, resistance band, yoga block and dumbbells and my arms and legs definitely ached in the workout! I only took a pair of 0.5kgs dumbbells and my arms were tired from the repetitive exercise. My legs were almost sore from the resistance band workout too. *I have them at home too… can put them to use at home too.*

Had satay bee hoon ($5) for lunch at Bukit Timah Hawker Centre with Mike. *Hopefully it means I will have a part-time job soon~* Funny how he saw WH at a bus stop on the way to his dentist lol.

Potato cooked teriyaki-marinated salmon cubes with Japanese cucumber and broccoli with shimeiji shrooms and carrots for dinner! MIL enjoyed them.
Saw a tarot reading by Peter Draper on Carousell for $15 and I asked him three questions pertaining to my career future. He did a 9-card reading with three bonus cards for my questions and I thought his explanation in the 20-min video he sent me was intriguing! Someone like me, at a crossroad in life now, somewhat needed that “push” to go for things I want without the constant worry about financial burden. Let’s hope the decision I made can help me attain higher achievements, and more importantly, a multiple portfolio that’s vibrant and fulfilling!

5/12/24 Thurs: Managed to pull through during Belinda’s pilates reformer class haha~ can feel my right tricep more sore now. FIL bought chicken and mutton curry for us for lunch~

Potato made shrimps with scrambled eggs and onions as well as potato slices with cabbage and carrots for dinner tonight! So good!
6/12/24 Fri: Ian drove PotaTOHs and MIL over to Woodlands Health Campus for her to change her dressing and we had lunch at Koufu. MM bought Liv and Luke over to visit MIL in the afternoon and the kids had some fun! PotaTOHS and MIL watched "Time Trap" on Netflix at night.
7/12/24 Sat: Potato cooked minced pork collar with green capsicum and shimeiji shroom in tomato sauce to go with spiral pasta for dinner~ MIL said she missed eating pasta haha.

8/12/24 Sun: Met Jess for hiking at Bukit Timah Hill in the morning. We finished walking one round in an hour. *Bumped into HN doing her "routine exercise" going up the slope too~* Had Eng Kee chicken wings ($2.6) at Beauty World Centre before we walked over to Bukit Timah Shopping Centre to have barachirashi dons ($40.53) for lunch hehe~ It was a nice catch-up as she shared about her Penang trip with PH.

Yes to homecooked unagi don for dinner! It was a frozen unagi, so it was not as nice as the fresh one, but still yummy thanks to Potato.
9/12/24 Mon: Ian came over to drive MIL to Woodlands Health Campus for her x-ray and appointment with the doctor. We ate a bit at Koufu, drove MIL home before going to Marsiling for the XO fried fish bee hoon for lunch.

10/12/24 Tues: Used a new reformer bed in Pilates class this morning. It was wider but we had to adjust ourselves for some of the moves. Had lotus root soup, bitter gourd with egg, mushroom with tofu and fish for dinner at my parents.

11/12/24 Weds: Used Masa's cold chicken udon recipe for lunch but replaced it with bee hoon instead since we did not have udon. I was pleasantly surprised that the addition of nori made it even tastier!
Finally finished reading “Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths to keep Singapore going” since Ian gave me the book on my birthday three years ago!
It was a book I’d been wanting to read but took me really long to finish. In the course of reading his interviews, I felt like a primary school kid all over again. I used to flip hardcopy dictionaries when I come across Chinese terms I did not understand in Chinese news. I did the same when reading his book, albeit googling in present times.

What was more difficult were the matters discussed, especially international politics, so I turned to Google very often too. But one thing though, his thoughts were very clear and he clearly knew his stuff, no matter the topic.

The book also touched on the Lee’s family life and his love for his wife. I respect this pragmatic man, who never wanted to be nor saw himself as a statesman, as life and the time he was in made him went down this path before dedicating his life to Singapore.

时势造英雄;要不是动荡不安的年代,新加坡或许不会有李光耀伟大的存在。他的一席话,叫我觉得要治理好弹丸小国已经不容易,更别说是确保小红点在国际舞台上能有发声的地位了。

Rating: 4/5

Potato cooked shrimp okonomiyaki for dinner with crabsticks and Japanese cucumber as a small side~ already salivating at the looks of it! Very tasty as usual hehe!
