12/7/21 Mon: Had my first Pilates Ease class with Chisa this morning. Even though the exercises were of lower intensity, the moves still worked the core and abs. There were some moves that I had some difficulty with, and Chisa would personally come over to adjust and correct them as much as possible, which showed that she is rather attentive as an instructor.
Potato cooked rosti for the first time and it was not bad! He marinated paprika and chilli powder with sutchi fillet that turned out quite hot and salty, but it went well with the rosti, cherry tomatoes, carrots and butterhead lettuce. *Potato taught me a new cutting method: Chiffonade… rolling layers of lettuce and cutting them.*I have completed my 10
weeks’ online course on Business Chinese Translation Skills organised by the
Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business, taught by Dr Liu Ling. She is
no doubt knowledgeable, especially when she explains the rules of English
grammar, but I do have my reservation about the material provided. I have
learnt quite a bit through the theories, but some of the practice questions
were taken directly from online, and there are mistakes in the original
questions. SCCIOB does not allow us to have the lecturer’s contact, so I had to
submit weekly assignments through their contact person to Dr Liu, and it was
quite disappointing as I was waiting for some form of comments from her but
nope, she did not reply to them nor discuss it in class, unless we shared in at
the start of the next lesson (and there are 11 of us in the course, how could
she mark all of it if we all handed in during class time!?). Translation
practice takes us some time to finish, since she did not mark, I also am a bit
lazy to finish all of it. *Nonetheless, I hope to put the certification and
skill to good use!*
14/7/21 Weds: Potato cooked teriyaki-marinated chicken meat and lady fingers for lunch~ a good one as usual!
Ian’s bed arrived and we
decided on a simple layout for his furnitures. PotaTOHs exercised, vacuumed,
and moped the house after that.
I steamed sliced cabbage wrapped in pork belly for dinner~ the sauce that was taught to go along with the dish was good! Potato cooked ABC soup all along with some leftover cabbage, tau kee, tau pok and prawn and fish paste beancurd.
15/7/21 Thurs: Ian is back
from Japan since two weeks ago, and he completes his quarantine today, so he
moved in in the afternoon! PotaTOHs brought him around the neighbourhood.
James came over for dinner. We ate Korean army stew, dabao-ed some dim sum and oyster omelette, had red wine and whiskey to “celebrate” Ian’s homecoming.
16/7/21 Fri: SS, MT, XY and
I had dinner at Brown Butter café… very dreamy pink café that suited the
birthday girl XY very well because she was dressed in pink too haha. Four of us
shared prawn and spinach creamy carbonara, curly fries with cheese, fish and
chips, as well as “charmed pancake” for dessert! The mascarpone was hot, sweet
and good for four people. Food here was not bad for a themed café. *Not
again about the dine-in restrictions…*
Came home and saw Potato and Ian who were just back from Gone Rogue bar too. We caught the first episode of the new season of “Leverage”… nice.
17/7/21 Sat: Potato cooked winter melon soup, tom yam chicken and spinach and shrooms for lunch~ yummy! *Finished the translation on the news of Laurie Laxon’s passing. I remember him for his jokes too. May he rest in peace.*
Went to HT’s place for a
dinner gathering with the primary school ladies, as well as to meet Alina’s new
boyfriend Jerome for the first time. He seems easy-going, definitely compatible
with Alina.
We had some buns from baomakers for hi-tea. Also played with brownie, the two-year-old Shiba Inu. *He’s quite active and curious, but still cute haha.* Went nearby to buy zichar for dinner, and because HT insist in treating us to dinner, so Alina and I treated them to drinks from Mr Coconut in return. Played a bit of “Overcooked 2” at night before calling it a night.
My air-purifying plants from Chlorofeel arrived at night! I bought asparagus fern, Peace Lily, golden money plant, spider plant, golden Sanseviera and Dracaena Deremensis. The Sanseviera was not as pretty as I imagined, but hopefully it blossoms as time passes!
19/7/21 Mon: Potato cooked lunch for Ian and me! They brought back leftovers from dinner at in-laws, and we added in more ingredients into the soup.
20/7/21 Tues: Potato drove Ian’s Volvo to my parents for dinner. Mum cooked unagi for dinner tonight~ shiok! After that, we went to buy some salmon fillet, smoked salmon and bubble tea before coming home.
21/7/21 Weds: Three of us had western with pork knuckles (leftover from Ian's dinner last night) for lunch~ shiok!
Farmily decided to gather before tighter restrictions knock in again on Thurs. Ning, Wandi and Francine came over and we had late dinner that we Grabfood from Sanook Kitchen at West mall. *Damn it came with leaked soup and missing rice…* But overall, the taste was not bad, especially the pineapple fried rice, prawn omelette and fried seabass.
Ning and Wandi bought some booze, and we all played a few rounds of “Joking Hazard” before calling it a night.
22/7/21 Thurs: Ian picked his cousin Sarah and I up for dinner at home. Potato was busy “at war” in the kitchen as he whipped up rosti and salmon for us! *He carved out cute bunnies using the cherry tomatoes too haha~* We had western, and also popiah and rojak that Ian bought.
23/7/21 Fri: Went to Koh Dental to finish off my crowning process. It took Dr Lee some time to file and screw the crown on. It got slightly painful for a few times though. After 45 minutes, the crowning was completed and though I still feel a bit awkward with a new tooth in that empty space after so long, I hope I get use to it soon enough, before a review with Dr Lee more than a week later.
Ian drove us to West Terra to
take-away zi char for dinner. The salted fish fried rice was not bad, and we
shared the yam ring dish.
24/7/21 Sat: Spent the
afternoon watching Tokyo 2020 Olympics game with Ian. He was explaining to me
how beach volleyball worked as we caught the game between Switzerland and
Germany.
Potato and I drove out to Beauty World Plaza to get ourselves salmon and chirashi don ($28) from Chirashiai. Pretty good and fulfilling, but their service could be a tad quicker imo. *The breads Francine baked were good!*25/7/21 Sun: Potato cooked seafood and tomato base prawn, old cucumber soup and小白菜for Ian and I for dinner~
26/7/21 Mon: Hubby cooked fried rice for us for lunch.
Three of us then had MacDonald’s and KFC for dinner as we planned to watch “The Final Table” as we ate, but somehow the videos were not loading on Netflix.
28/7/21 Weds: Had a bit of
fun with “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes” as I spent my past few days
watching Tokyo Olympics 2020 too. Was mostly catching table tennis, badminton
and swim matches, but also watched some archery, beach volleyball and indoor
volleyball, which I had Ian explaining to me the rules as he played it.
Lemonade cod fish was nice as usual!
PotaTOHs and Ian decided to have some roti prata for supper as we watched the episode on India’s food on “The Final table”. Drove to Alif Restaurant at Gombak at first but it was closed, so we ended up at Bukit Timah instead. *Kind of shiok to have prata as you watch a food program!*
29/7/21 Thurs: Potato drove me to tuition and made waffles for all three of us before Ian cooked up dinner for us for the first time haha! He had prawns, mushrooms, 豆苗and penne in creamy tomato sauce~ tasted really yummy. *Oh and of course knowing Ian, we had white wine to go along with the meal~*
30/7/21 Fri: PotaTOHs had
cold soba and some simple dishes for lunch because Ian’s out, thus “Japanese
food” for us hehe. The lean pork meat was slightly salty, but it still went
well with the shimeiji mushroom and lady’s fingers.
31/7/21 Sat: After Potato’s class, Ian randomly picked up the guitar and Potato, the cajon, and the duo began playing in the living room. It was nice of Ian to cook lunch for us: Big Breakfast~ the croissant bread and the mushy eggs were a match made in heaven! We enjoyed the shrooms and surprisingly for me, the bacon wasn’t that salty either.
Met Ahna, Jess and LL on
Google Meet for a chat. We listened mostly to updates of Ahna’s mum’s cancer
condition. She removed her uterus and there was a bit of accident during the
surgery, but luckily the slight cut at the bladder did not cause infection.
By the time I ended the meeting with the ladies at about 4pm, PY, Ian and Potato were already playing “Keep talking and Nobody Explodes” in the living room. Francine came not long after. We had some fun while waiting for dinner from 8Crabs, treat courtesy of Ian.
We tried two crabs (700g each) of theirs in chilli crab sauce and salted egg yolk sauce, in which Potato and I preferred the former… though it still got too sweet for us in the end. Their kangkong was spicy, the coffee rib did not taste like one, hotplate tofu was so-so, but the honey soy sauced chicken was still alright for me after a while.
The family enjoyed a game of “Mansion of madness” at night in which we cheated, as usual lol~ But hey, we completed the investigation and won the game in two and a half hours! *Potato and I went to sleep at 1am, while the rest continued to chat till 4+am omg~*
1/8/21 Sun: Potato drove me to tuition and came to fetch me back afterwards~ *so sweet hor hehe~* We then took away laksa and prawn noodles from JE market for Ian and PY for lunch.
Potato cooked teriyaki chicken, button mushrooms and onions with blanched broccoli and udon for dinner! Very delicious!
2/8/21 Mon: Caught a bit of
the Olympics Womens’ team Singapore VS France match in the morning before
PotaTOHs drive out to Bukit Batok Nature Park for a leisure stroll! *Glad
that SG team won but they have to go head-to-head with China in the round of 8
haiz.*
Bukit Batok Nature Park is quite small, so it took us less than half an hour to get to the quarry area. Air was fresh there, and we saw roosters, monkeys and many white-crested Laughingthrush~ they seemed pretty used to having visitors around. As they were “social” birds, I think it made sense that they were so noisy lol.
It began to drizzle close to
11am, so we left for Koh Dental as it was a follow-up check for my crown. *Damn
the check was fast… over in less than five minutes!* Drove over to Hua Zai
Hong Kong Style Roasted Delight at Blk 347 and we had their roasted meat, duck
meat, soy-sauced chicken drumstick and char siew ($18) for lunch… the herbal taste
in the sauce was great.
*Ian bought us
dinner from Tim Ho Wan… the chicken feet and tau kee were good.* We finished watching “The Final Table” as well.
All the chefs there were already accomplished in their own ways, yet they are still fighting for higher honours for a seat in “The Final Table” which consists of nine other chefs with even higher accolades than them. It’s amazing just seeing them create fine dining dishes in one hour most of the time… totally no room for error nor do audience see any, anyway.

3/8/21 Tues: Took my second
jab of Moderna vaccine at 10.18am and they gave us a box of disposable masks
this time. The soreness began to kick in during lunch this time.
Potato made us sumptuous dinner consisting rosti, smoked salmon, sausage, iceberg lettuce, cherry tomato and shrooms. A pity I didn’t have much appetite as I felt the cold and had to wrap myself up with a jacket that night. I even went to bed much earlier than usual, but it was the start of the intense battle between my immune system and the mRNA vaccine. At first, the sweat wasn’t coming out, until about 11.30pm when Potato came to sleep, that’s when I could feel that the head wasn’t feeling hot anymore, though other parts of my body were still burning.
I basically tossed and
turned around, stuck between feeling hot and cold and ran the toilet a few
times because I drank lots of water prior to sleep. I also increased the fan
speed gradually a few times as I felt the surrounding getting hotter.
4/8/21 Weds: Wasn’t
surprising that I could only get out of bed at 9+am. Didn’t feel like I even
slept the last night. Was rather lethargic. Finished one story and decided to
nap that whole afternoon. Yes, I was still sweating a bit that afternoon, and
there’s this weird, irritating ache in my right kneecap since the second jab
which came now and then.
It was a good three hours of rest. Woke up to a loving dinner (lemon sutchi fillet, cabbage soup, nai bai with shrooms and carrots) cooked up by Potato, even though again my stomach decided I could not eat a lot the whole day.
5/8/21 Thurs: Felt much
better today, though the jab site is still red and slightly sore from the
vaccine.
Bought satay bee hoon from
Eng Kee Noodle House ($5.30) at Blk 155 for lunch, but it was only so-so. Ian
and Potato enjoyed their duck meat (not the rice) though.
Potato cooked bee hoon, dumplings and iceberg lettuce in ikan bilis and chicken stock~ simple and nice. He ate soba instead because we don’t have enough bee hoon for three people haha.
Finished watching《경이로운 소문》(The Uncanny Counter) with Potato.
