Ben comes over for housewarming + PotaTOHs’ @ Wawasg + Potato's car accident & my suspected food poisoning + Thomson Nature Park & Tamako with Jess + 《全明星运动会3》

21/3/22 Mon: Had one lesson of Pilates on the reformer with Hana this morning and as usual, I sweated quite a bit.

PotaTOHs decided to have meatless aglio olio for dinner. We cooked Chinese spinach with lentil on the sides, while our main was spaghetti with shiitake mushroom, garlic and onion~ not bad!

22/3/22 Tues: Hit a bit of a bump at the interview with Donna Logan so I had to change up my story angle a little. Also chatted with Constance Cheng, the owner from Toast Trusts stable for a while at the barrier trials. *I hope I can be more confident about interviews in future! I know I can do it, just that I tend to be stressed about them easily.*

23/2/22 Weds: I tried prawns in tomato sauce from a recipe in the下厨房app, and added in tofu and chilli padi on my own, but the taste came out only okay to me… I think my mum’s cooking with ketchup sauce is still much better lol.

24/2/22 Thurs: Wanted to interview Clements but he’d already left for the Dubai World Cup meeting, so I talked to White instead. Also chatted a bit with Crutchley, Beuzelin, Stewart and Le Grange. Lim’s Lightning came out for his trial with a hood on, but he was somewhat feisty at first.

Wanted to eat at 566 café with LL but it was full, so LL treated me to vongole pasta at Whisk and Paddle café instead~ thank you! Rushed through work in the afternoon and I had no time for the Oxigeno class in the evening, so took my time to takeaway my go-to Korean chicken spicy soup set from Yew Tee Kopitiam.

25/2/22 Fri: Drove out to have Chicken Viet Pho ($4) at Viet Corner for lunch… I enjoy their soup a lot haha. Sweated out in Piloxing Class in the evening!

26/2/22 Sat: A long day of work for me because the story on Lim’s Kosciuszko was quite lengthy. Watched the Dubai World Cup 2022 too and obviously, Japanese horses are on another level. *I’m sorry for misspelling Mick Dittman’s name wrongly in the first version of the story.* It’s been a while and Potato made watercress soup for us for dinner!

27/2/22 Sun: Ben visited PotaTOHs’ place for the first time in the late afternoon. He is one guest that’s very inquisitive about our place haha~ I quite enjoyed explaining to him about different parts of our home too!

He requested for me to cook dinner, so I grilled smoked duck breast meat with enoki and onion, and stir-fried red spinach with carrot and mushroom. *Should have cut the stalks shorter and carrots into slices instead.* We chatted a bit and played “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes” on VR~ only to realise Ben’s a very impatient person lol!

28/3/22 Mon: Used the new studio for our Pilates Reformer class this morning and Chisa went all out at her first lesson after two weeks! It was a good sweat-out. Potato picked me up after class and we went to get popiah and kueh pie tee at My Cosy Corner for my family and us.

I intended to use sweet potato for dinner at night, but only found out the four left ones were already mushy. Had to replace the dish with scrambled egg last minute and somehow, I forgot that I wanted mushroom to go with it, so I stir-fried them with Caixin instead tsk. *Coming up with alternatives is indeed harder for a newbie cook.* I was a bit down after dinner but Potato was very supportive as usual, and he even drove me to and fro for tuition… very thankful!

29/3/22 Tues: Interviewed Jerome Tan for his three runners and he did not want to do it at first ~ made me panic for a bit lol. *Local trainers shy away from the media more, I need to find ways to tackle this.* I did not want to go somewhere far for lunch, so I walked to Ananas café at Kranji to find food. It’s pathetic now that there’s only one stall there, and the choices they have is limited too. We don’t have much here at our canteen either, so I probably have to take away from home before I come into office some days next time!

Had dinner at my parents and poor dad looked to have an allergic reaction or something because the left side of his face was all swollen since morning. The doctor gave him paracetamol, antibiotics and cream to apply and he took three days of MC. *Could be an insect bite too… hopefully it subsides soon.*

Did basic moves in aerial class tonight. *Nice to have Potato fetch me to and fro from class too!*

31/3/22 Thurs: Did my story and moved some of my stuff over to my new cubicle back in the old office. Had lunch with Mike too as he came back to take his Media pass. *I keep a recording of interviews just in case I misquote people. It can back me up too, when needed.*

PotaTOHs drove over to have dinner at Wala Wala SG that specialises in lala and cockles. I ordered their drunken lala soup ($7.90), sambal lala with rice ($9.90) and cockles marinated with special sauce ($11.90). I kind of enjoyed the lala soup with beehoon but the plump cockles were a bit too raw to our liking haha. Then, we returned the car at Ian’s residence and went home~

1/4/22 Fri: I signed up for virtual Piloxing classes that was supposed to start at 5.15pm this month but I remembered it as 6.15pm like in the past months alamak~ missed it! So, I randomly replaced it with an exercise session from Fitbit.

Dad’s swelling did not subside much after three days and I heard that there were pus around the areas too, so the doctor referred him to NTFGH. Mum and I thought his toothache could be the root of the cause but I’m hoping it’s not an infection due to that.

Potato cooked dinner for us and the enoki with bacon wrap was so good because he added honey on top of each of the bacon!

2/4/22 Sat: Long race day as usual. The tough part about race day duties for me is not usually on the writing, but the prep work done beforehand and the constant need to take note of trainers or jockeys’ possible first wins in every race. Then, there is also my translation, stewards’ findings, and suspension. *Potato got into a minor accident when another driver cut into his path abruptly, but luckily, he was unharmed and Ian’s car was not damaged either.*

Took away Korean kimchi chicken soup ($5.20) from the stall at Happy Hawkers’ at Bukit Batok for dinner. There was not much meat to begin with and I could not tell if anything’s off with kimchi soup because they tend to be sourish anyway. Maybe the fact that I sat down for four, five hours straight to work after dinner made the indigestion worse.

I woke up to acid reflux in the middle of the night, but I did not pay much attention to it because it was not the first time either.

3/4/22 Sun: My stomach was feeling unwell the whole day and I had no appetite. Could not finish the fish porridge I bought for myself for lunch nor MIL’s curry chicken dinner that Potato brought home for me. Unfortunately for him, he started to run a high fever of 38 degrees Celsius at night after experiencing a nagging headache since morning. I practically slept the whole afternoon away half-lying down because I could not fully, otherwise the reflux would come back. *It’s bad when both of us are unwell at the same time.*

Potato took one Panadol and had an early night at 930pm or so. I finished two bottles of po chai pills, and right after finishing the second bottle, the “Merlion feeling” grew and I had to run for the toilet. I was not wrong. Yesterday’s dinner came pouring out. I felt much better after that, and I even caught an episode of “Thirty-Nine” before sleeping. The food was probably “not clean”, so I am not going to buy from that stall for a long, long time. *Glad to know that my dad’s face has gotten a bit better today.*

4/4/22 Mon: Cancelled my Pilates Reformer class this morning while I was still under the weather yesterday afternoon. Decided to take it slow by replacing that with a short exercise session on Fitbit.

For meatless Monday dinner tonight, we had yellow capsicum with mushroom and lentil as a dish, which Potato seasoned with Italian herb, salt and pepper, and also carrot with lady’s fingers. *I cut the lady’s fingers a bit too thick though.*

5/4/22 Tues: My stomach was uneasy the whole day, so I’m glad I called in sick for Aerial tonight. Only had a bread for lunch because I didn’t feel like eating at all. I even had a slight fever because the office was too cold. Told mum about it over dinner and she passed me霍元正气丸which worked like a miracle I reckon~ had one bottle of it after dinner, and my fever came down at night. I felt much better. *Dad’s swelling went down by a lot, but I hope he can be more pro-active when it comes to taking care of himself.*

6/4/22 Weds: Emptied the toxins in my stomach early morning. My appetite is close to normal already. The symptoms were similar to stomach flu so I reckon either that or food poisoning happened to me since last Saturday after dinner. *The new rule changes to the Aerial Yoga package is unfair for people like me who have cancelled one class already. I’m kind of being short-changed. Hmph.*

We had napa cabbage soup tonight as it's lighter on the stomach. The dinner made by Potato was good, but my appetite hadn't return to normal, so I couldn't finish everything.

7/4/22 Thurs: Rainy day at the trials when I spoke to Donna. Lisa was there and Sunday would be her last day of work with Stephen after eight years in Singapore. On my way to the stables, I saw Jerlyn but she could not recognise me after I cut my hair short! She led me to where Hakim was at, but as his English was not good yet, Jamil offered to be the translator for us.

Had the instant chicken porridge I took from mum’s place for lunch… meh. Took me the whole afternoon to finish Hakim’s story because it was very long, and then Mike told me to break it up into two, so I stayed in office till about 6.30pm to rewrite my copies. *The internet, printer and phone connection over at my new cubicle is still not set up properly! I won’t move over until things are in place.*

Potato was nice to fetch me at the bus stop, knowing his wife is tired after work hehe. He also helped ordered the salmon burger from MacDonald’s because I thought to try. It was not bad for me, but as it’s fried, I don’t think I’d crave for it again haha. *It’s been long since I had the feeling of “having something to look forward to” when one is burnt-out at work again lol.*

8/4/22 Fri: Went to Wei Chuan studio to take the end-product from my pottery session there with YJ and Jess. The finishing was smooth, and though my bowl’s size was kind of in-between, I’m happy that it’s still usable! *Won $150 worth of NTUC e-voucher from Geneco’s contest… so happy hehe~*

Only did half of the virtual Pilates session tonight because I had a TEAMS meeting with Eunice in the evening. PotaTOHs then drove out for sashimi dinner at Umi Nami at Holland Village because I found their dinner promotion set on Chope ($12 for one main and one drink)! My barachirashi don was not bad, but I think I would have got sick of his smoked tuna slices by the end though haha.

9/4/22 Sat: *Only knew I had to take ART on race days recently tsk.* Race days are long and tiring for me, so I’m always looking forward to coming home to dinner cooked by Potato! We had dried udon, teriyaki salmon and celery which was yummy!

10/4/22 Sun: Potato drove Jess and I down to Thomson Nature Park in the late afternoon before he went to meet Melissa and Ian for dinner. It’s not a big park, so I thought one and a half hours would be more than enough to finish walking the trails and seeing the ruins, but we got a little lost inside somehow!

This former Hainanese Village is a little gem imo, the views and routes are somewhat different from other nature parks. Nonetheless, we decided to leave at 6.30pm or so and walked over to Tamako Meal for dinner. *Ban Leong Wah Hoe was so packed and everyone seemed to be having crabs there! I should try it one day!* I had my usual salmon sashimi don while Jess ate the unagi don. She liked the potato salad they did, and I told her PotaTOHs could whip up something similar too lol! We also bought some tidbits from an old-school mama shop just beside.

11/4/22 Mon: Now, the reformers are reorganised into one row facing the mirrors in the new studio, so I was trying to get used to looking myself in it as I worked out too. However, I do think that’s a good idea because we tend to go “off form” sometimes and we might not realise it.

Headed down to NTFGH to get the memo from Dr Tiong and I had to wait for about half an hour because they did not know which nurse got the memo!

Cooked vegetarian udon in daishi stock for dinner: spinach, mushroom, carrot, taupok, egg, plus a side of cherry tomato! Good enough for the two potaTOHs on a rainy day~

12/4/22 Tues: Good to see that dad’s swell has gone down, though the left side of his face was still red. *Apparently, he was referred to the A&E department on April 1, but he still had to wait the whole afternoon before he got to see the doctor.* We had to climb up a few times to drop into the final pose as shown here~ my thighs were still aching from Pilates yesterday morning!

13/4/22 Weds: *Feels down when you see the number of views on some stories you’ve done is only “one” but you’d put so much time into writing them. If the bigger environment does not improve, then should it be time for me to take things easier?*

Joined in a half an hour-long virtual mat Pilates class organised by Health Promotion Board, and just as I thought, "Hundreds" was the killer for me haha.

Potato cooked dinner for us before he headed down to Timbre for live music and drinks with Ian, James and their friends! There’s my favourite tom yam chicken meat with enoki and lettuce, stir-fried napa cabbage, mushroom and carrot, and taupok, carrot and egg in miso soup, in which the taupok tasted very good because it soaked up the essence of the soup well~

Finished watching《全明星运动会3》at night.

A few young ones like王庭匀、王品澔and胡释安stood out for me because of their abilities on the field. I think I support the red team more since Season 1 but they have lost the overall championship in all three seasons lol.
